I am not by any means an outstanding rider, but I do well and am not too bad. I currently have a DRZ400E that I use for basically trail riding where I live in Jamaica. I ride on smooth to rough trails, roads up in the mountains on a weekend. I am buying a new bike however I am indecisive as to what to buy. The choices are the Honda CRF450x offroad or the CRF450R motocross. The less fuel is not a problem with the motocross and neither are the absence of the lights as I rarely get caught at night (maybe twice ever). Which should I go with? I am a heavy rider, 210 pounds if that makes any difference. Would the motocross version have low down torque for the slow tight rough areas? Help someone!!

(I) would say the 450x would be the way to go. As i ride some tight trails and have seen the motto x bikes have problums in the really tight stuff. as well as get really hot and stall. I also read a article where they ran a 250 2 stroke against a 450f in tight trails and although it did well in most areas, It was horrible in tight places, And even the pro stalled it and could not keep up. I would not put a 450 mx bike in the woods. Just (MY) Opinion.

Well, its all reider preferance...I personally would not trade my 450 for the world and I ride woods. Its all about getting used to your bike. I am pretty darn fast in the woods, and I honestly don't think a different bike would make me any faster. In this case, coming off a DRZ400, a 450X will feel worlds better. But if lights are not a must, and electric start, then go for the R, it is much lighter and you will be able to ride longer without getting tired.

I think a 450R would be awesome for you if you're not using the headlight and don't mind kicking. If you really have a problem with stalling, you can always opt for a Rekluse clutch on it.
