You only have 2 choices. YZ250 or KTM 250sx. The rest are obsolite. I would say the YZ. I have the 06, And had the 05, There top of the line! There were a few canges to the 07 including pro taper bars. Iv never rode the Ktm, but all indecations are that it is all new and a great all around bike. But i would stick with whats tried and true. YZ!

Wow, he gave us alot of info about himself, but if a bike were to drive itself, I would give the nod to the KTM for some of the top notch components and lightweight, then the YZ, and the others are way behind those two. Im talking in 07 of coarse

Whatever you do do not get an SX250. From the reviews I have read, it has major rear stability issues at all speeds and handles very poorly. The suspension is supposed to be set up for a 160 pound intermediate (VERY soft) and the gas tank is on the small side too. The only praise for it was the the lightweight and looks (though sidepanel numbers are a pain to put on). The KX250 hasn't been changed for 3 years now and is the worst of the bunch. The CR250 is okay, but again, the Honda 2 stroke engine isn't great (no bottom end). The best choices are the Rm250 and the YZ250. They are pretty much the same bike except for one aspect, the quality. The YZ and RM are neck and neck for performance, but the YZ just has the better quality and reliability. The RM's reviews complain about bent rotors, superfast wearing pistons, and front brake master cylinder issues. The YZ has best spread and usable power of them all and has best ergos, suspension, and 2nd best lighweight feel next to the KTM. To make a very long story short, go YAMAHA!

Ok, this topic about KTM's has got to stop, They do NOT handle poorly. I have an 03 KTM and they are considered to handle not nearly as well as an 04, then 04 not as well as 05 and same as 06 not as well as 07. The 07 is the best year of handling KTM's ever. To tell you the truth, once I got used to the way my KTM handled, took me all of 5 minutes, it felt fine. They take a little more of getting used to, but by no means do they handle poorly.

As one who owns both a KTM and Yamaha, I can honestly tell you, that if by means of comparison the 07 is night and day better than the 03, then it may handle better than the YZ if you spend some time on them. My SX feels stable in the rear, stable over the long run, handles great in corners, in comparison, it feels a little more heavy steering in the front compared to my YZ.

I really can't image what a 07 KTM will feel like, but compared to the YZ, I think its right on par, not at a lower level at all.

I will tell you this, a bold statement, but true. A tester's review of a KTM saying it handles poorly should be tossed. Take a KTM rider, one who is used to them, and they rate them near the top, those are the reviews you should take.

Now, it has been somewhat of a fact on the rear shock blowing through the stroke of the KTM PDS, but its not that bad and im still taking about my 03. Yea, it will use some more stroke at un-needed times, but with a little tinkering with the rebound and compression clickers, you will be fine.

I think a linkageless rear shock may be the way to go if KTM keeps on progressing the way they do, they are getting closer and closer to being just as good as a linkaged shock.

Like I said, the statements I made were from reviews I read from people who own and ride the bikes. If they are better than what I've read then great. Personally I like KTM's best out of any manufacturer for their excellent components and quality. That's good if they are progressing towards the same platform of the japanese bikes, but I have just read and found that the riders like the YZ250 better. Sorry for any hard feelings.

No hard feelings, but I just don't really like when people go by only what a magazine says.

Also, most magazine testers don't own those bikes. Yes, they ride them, but not own them. The have sessions on these bikes, but each tester may have 1 or 2 honda's or suzuki's, but they don't own every test bike (obvious).

So, what im saying is, most testers don't own an Austrian bike, which alter's their final decision about the handling of KTM's. Like I said in my other posts, those who own a KTM or have alot of seat on them know that they are nothing but on par with the Japanese bikes.
