Im adding a new bike to my collection very soon, either a 06 CRF250R or a 07 YZ250F. The only reason I am considering the CRF is because its a leftover 06, and I can get a smokin deal on it.
Anyways, heres the deal, I am going to get the thing ported and probably pipe it right off the bat. If I get the Honda I will buy a whole new MDK racing Head and new valves and camshaft..the whole deal, I just don't even want to run the POS Honda OEM valve train. But, if I get the Yami, I will pry get a whole system, port it, maybe a camshaft, and obviously proper jetting on both bikes.
Soo, what do you think would be a good guess on how much power they will have? Or any cheaper alternatives to more power?

hey man, first off, i woud get the Yamaha. sounds like are gonna be racing. the honda has dual pipes(thats a minus, not a plus), a bog that can only be completly fixed with a 37mm carb from 2005, and like you said, not as good engine reliability. the Yamaha turns better this year than last year by a significant mount , is faster, lighter, better suspended, and more durability. stock, both these bikes make around 35.5 horsepower. with an exhaust it goes up to 37hp. with a higher compression piston it goes to 37.5 or so. wth cylider porting, it goes to nearly 38. with cams, it goes to about 38.7. hope this helps, and by the way, the yz is awesome

Well, im not so sure about it being faster or lighter, but what makes you so sure about the Yamaha? It seems like thats all you ever tell people to get? Whats with that?
I mean, were talking about me saving 1200 bucks in this case, and im not so sure the 07 Yami is worth 1200 more...

maybe not in your eyes, but i would rather get the yamaha for the money. i like yamahas, thats no secret. but if i had enough money to get a new bike, i would choose from the RMZ250, the KX250F, and the YZ250f. the kx is the fastest, the yamaha and suzuki about the same, the suzuki turns the best, the yamaha has the best reliability and suspension. for the right price, i would go for the RMZ250. the kawsaki seems a bit more fragile. i dont know, its what is important to you. i want a bike that will rev, turn over quickly, lug and chug, have the best or in te ballpark suspension, turn well and this all fits the YZ. te kawasaki dosnt turn as well, the RMZ turns awesome, and has a good engine, the YZ has the best suspension. the YZ has the best all-around package for MX, sand, trails, etc. i dont do trails or sand too often, but for me, it fits the best. the new suzook gives it a run though.

Yea, I understand.
I dont know if you saw, but I did get to ride the all new RM-Z250 for quite awhile. While I did like the bike, It felt gutless, but in a good way. I could hold the bike pinned almost all the time. The main thing that holds me back about the RM-Z is that its a suzuki. Not that suzuki is bad, but that I hear alot of stuff about their components not being up to par. Also, even though the RM-Z suspension wasn't half bad, when I pushed the bike like I do my YZ, it would bottom hard and it kinda felt like the fork wanted to deflect off square-edged bumps? I don't know, but something felt weird about it even though I felt comfident and comfortable on the bike. If that even makes sense.
But its Yami or Honda for me, because thats what the dealer I work for sells.

by the way, the YZ and RMZ250f's both make the same amount of power, with the YZ revving more on top, with the RMZ better off bottom. the YZ is the second lighest 250f to the KTM by 1 pound. the YZ weighs 213. the suzook weighs 217. the honda is around 216. the YZ is faster than the honda, but the rider of the YZ may not be faster than the rider of the CRF. and my first post, all the mods are put on in successive order, so it all is piled up on top to get the final horsepower number.

on your last post, yes, the RMZ is valved lighter and is missing some rebound in the shock. it would need heavier springs for faster and heavier riders. i only weigh 125 so i could ride it stock. with heavier springs it would have been better. i think suzuki did a great job this year on getting caught back up. i think their bike would be pretty durable.

Well, I felt the fast rebounding shock, so I slowed it down 2 clicks, then 3 and liked 3 the best...so that took care of the shock.
As for my weight, I weigh 138, so it should still be oversprung for me. I agree on the valving though. Its just so hard when every magazine I read has conflicting views.
I have seen 3 magazines rank the RMZ last or second to last and 1 unanomously rank it first..gosh darn, what gives...I think I will just still see what deal I get on the Yami, and go from there.
But hey, any 07 is great.

well good luck. by the way, racerx had the KX250F and the YZ250F tied for first with the RMZ a close second. then mxa had the KX250F in first, the YZ250F second, and the RMA250 just beaten by a smidgion to the YZ. honda was 4th and ktm 5th. i get Dirtbike magazine, Dirt Rider, Motocross Action Mag, Transworld motocross, and RacerX. thats 5.
