just bought a 2002 rm250 and the clutch doesnt seem right.  you have to let the clutch lever out about 75% before it starts to engage...so basically, my clutch is only using the last 25% of the lever movement to operate.

i checked the adjustment on the lever and it is set correctly.

the bike doesnt seem to be slipping and the clutch is holding tight when you are on the power.

is there something wrong here, or is that just the nature of the beast?

thanks

as far as i know, its supposed to be like that. my clutch disengages aftr i pull it in about half an inch. also, ive heard some pros only have to pull it in the width of a quater before it disengages the engine. that is because they may be going into a turn hard and might almost stall so they only have to use a little effort to pull it in and keep it from stalling. this also helps with fanning the clutch, and reduces arm pump.

i will say that the RM250 has a bad clutch. it is weak, vague and grabby. if it does anything like that, get yourself some stiffer clutch springs. pro circuit makes some if you need it.

Sounds about right to me. But if you don't like it, You can always adjust to your liking. I like my clutch like that because i can 2 finger it and it will disengage easy. The less you have to let out to engage the more you have to pull in to dis engage. And if your cluch is alittle stiff, That means using more fingers to pull it in that far. Wich is more time, effort, and less you have to hold on to your grip with. Just a thought. YZ WOODS.
