I am looking at buying a new YZ125 and I am only 5'07" tall.  Will I be tall enough to touch to ground with both feet or does it really matter.  Thx for any help

At 5'7" you are taller than Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart, and they are the best riders in the world right now. Not sure how tall Ryan Villopoto is, but I'd bet he is no more than 5'7" and he is blazing fast on his 250f

you should be able to tiptoe. I had a freind who was shorter than you and he would simply side saddle his 250 when he had to stop, it certainly didn't affect his riding, so I would say it.s not extremely important to be able to touch the ground with more than your tiptoes to be able to ride well.

No, you won't with both feet.  You should be able to get one down though.  I am 5'6" so bikes have always been tall for me.  You just get used to it and learn to deal with it (it only takes a small berm, bump etc to be able to use to help).  If nothing is around I simply step of the bike as I stop (like a nac-nac on the ground   ).

Being short you can occasionally get caught where you can't get a foot down and go "plop" but its rare.

I would visit a dealer (take a buddy to help hold the bike ) and see how tall it is.

You also have a couple other options.  Ricky and Ryan (Ryan is my height, Ricky is your height) have cutdown seats and lowered sub-frames.  You can also have a suspension shop lower the front and rear suspension an inch or inch and a half as well (its reversable if you get taller and by having the both lowered you keep the proper geometry and the bike handles like it did before).

Some food for thought at least.

Yeah I used to be 5'5" riding a bike with a 39 inch seat height. You should be able to touch ground and you get used to riding that way and learn ways to ride and balance yourself. Teaches you great balance.

well im 5'8 and i went to a dealer today sat on the honda crf230f and they had a yz125 there to but it was close to other bikes so i couldnt sit on that but i am going to buy the yz. and i could touch the floor on the crf  both feet and you would proberly be tip toeing on the crf which is a tiny bit smaller than the yz because of it's seat height so i would reccomend not trying a yz125 maybe a tt-r125 a crf150-230 or a yz85 but as for power the crf230f will be the best for your height range so far but you're a growing lad so forget everything i said and buy that yz cause there faster than the crf altohugh if you've never ridden MX before you'll just die on a yz
owner of a ttr125lwe soon to be a yz125 or a crf230f

what about if you ride in the bush were u cant side saddle everytime you have to stop
because you have to use your feet alot to get through the tricky stuff
and there is alot of stop and start

In that case; I'd have the suspension lowered by a good suspension shop.

It's my first year riding. My hub bought me a TTR125. I'm about 5'8". I can touch flat footed. I actually feel to tall for the bike. But for the newbie that I'am I like the feeling of getting my feet down fast. I'd go and sit on a few bikes and then decide.

ahh an rm and a yz dont compare. its been my experience that the yz's are especially tall. i'd say your fine though. I have a friend with a 2000 yz 125. and hes only 5"7' as well. he does allright only thing he does is get his pant leg cought on the pegs a lot when he goes to stop and tips over. he just needs to tuck his pants into his boots lol ~pat

you will be fine on a 125. anything smaller wont have enough power and you will quickly grow out of it. a 125 four stroke such as the ttr 125 has absolutely no power and horrible suspension. the crf 230 is the same thing no power and no suspension. an 85 is way too small for you. an 85 big wheel would fit you better but you may feel like you need more power after riding it for a month.

a 125 two stroke will never run out of power and has an awesome suspension.
