rear wheel bouncing

I've been trying to fiddle with my suspension to get a bit more speed through the tracks. I reckon the front suspension is all good, but the rear seems to bounce all over the place. Any ideas where to start, rebound, compression etc. It's a ohlins shock.

the best advice i can give is to make a change. if it gets worse, stop and go the other way. if it gets better, keep going until gets worse and then go back to where it was good. ohlins makes good shocks so it's just not adjusted right or something. ill post some nifty links later.

Having a friend watch (or video) can be a great help.  Does it feel like its bouncing because its too stiff or that its jumping up too quick after a bump?

not sure, thats why I asked. I'll see if I can get someone to watch me and we'll go from there.

Thanks

Too stiff of suspention is worse then soft i found. In rocky trails I'v had my azz end jump all over the place and take the strenth out of my legs and pump my arms. After getting the right travel out of my suspention it was fine.  And thats after race sag was set. Don't be afraid to give your suspention alittel play and adjust your riding style. You could end up with a great and fast bike. Food for thought. YZ WOODS.

i think my suspension is too soft. i feel like i "have" to ride smooth and can't just charge something or else it will throw me off. I am only a lightweight at 130 pounds, but when i send my suspension of this year, im gonna get it valved for a 150 pound intermediate. i think this will greatly improve my speed.

well, i went riding today, still havent shipped it off, still stock. but the rear was kicking al over the place, i think i had a little too much compression and rebound on there. gave me two nasty crashes but im ok, kinda. if i get it revalved i plan on getting it stiffer because i plan on hitting things much harder.

Try stiffing up your rear compression 2 clicks at a time.  Check your race sag and make sure you are between 3 to 3.5 inches.  Check your tire pressure if riding in sand you should be around 12 to 13 lbs in the rear tire and  10 to 12 lbs in the front.  If you try this and no luck you should have a suspension tech go over your bike for you.

because im only gonna get faster, and i beleive it was caused by the shock being unproportionatly stiff to the forks. i think that i just need to balance it more and be ready for it better. i hit the bump totally wrong in the first place and wasnt ready for it. the rear end being too stiff compared to the forks is what ended up causing the crash.

JUST REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU THINK YOUR SUSPENSION IS TOO HARD OR STIFF IT IS REALLY ACUALLY TOO SOFT. theres my 2 cents again.

well, that may be true in some cases, and i would say is quite common, but you cant tell me that it cant feel too stiff because it IS too stiff. i beleive that its not too soft, i beleive its too stiff. maybe not by much, but the forks aren't equally as stiff. if they were i think it would be better. i think i just need to tone down the rear a few clicks.
