Hi, im 14 and 5 feet tall and a quarter. right now i am riding a noname 70, and i can earn a name brand bike of any size by next june when i turn 15 if i get good grades, anyway, i would like a 2 stroke, and have been looking at the RM125, as i like suzuki. anyway, i went to my local dealer twice and sat on two different RMs and can not touch the ground the way they were set (one was brand new, and it was soft, and one was about 3 inches shorter but stiffer) i could only touch with the tips of my toes. my budget is up to 1500 and i would like to have a bike that can keep up with my friends 125s and 230s and other full size bikes, also, i would like to have an enduro capable bike. should i get a RM/CR/KX and just tune the suspension a bit or stick with a mini and sell it after a year or two when i grow out of it, i sat on a YZ85 and i could almost get both feet on the ground.
edit: i also have rode my friends CRF230 that was too big for me,(he has the suspension extremely stiff because hes 6'4 and weighs 180) and feel i can handle more power also i will do all types of riding, trails and track

Welcome to the board Sub. And let me start by saying that You don't buy a bike to keep up with anyone, You get the best bike for YOUR size exp and application.
Then, As you get better, You will be faster. Now to your question. I think a 125 2 stroke will be alittle much with the info you gave, And will take the fun factore out of riding for you at this point. As you will be just trying to not get hurt.
If you wan't a 2 stroke..YES lol. I love um. Go sit on a KX100, And the YZ 85 Is one nasty bike and will keep you happy for a long time. (I) would recomend the YZ80.
Keep in mind that this bike is a power house and capable of dusting your friends.
But is also the best 80 ever made and has great handling and suspention.
If you can tip toe the bike with both feet then it's okay. You will learn what to do.
As in ANY 2 stroke, It takes time and practice. There great bikes, But takes time to get the throttle and cluch controle down to a art ,Go slow and learn the bike, And then you will be faster then any of your friends. If you learn to ride well you could be faster on a PW50!
Practice and be SAFE!
But the YZ85 is Your best bet.

If you want a 4-stroke then get the 250f. Not the 230, its doggy with no suspension. Like woods said the yz85 is your best bet.

the RM is good too but the YZ is faster. have you ever rode an 85? I have rode a 230 and it is a turd even compared to 85's i have rode.

ta i would go 2 stroke.....the rm's do not have good low end power compared to other bike.....there more geared to high rpm.....witch isn't always good to do in the woods......i found that out the hard way but doing 1100 bucks in engine repair to my rm125....i melted the top of the piston and it melted onto the wall of the piston sleeve...when that happened.....is warped the rod and crank shaft.....not good to run high rpms in woods....and in sand on a 125.....and don't mix it 40:1......i did it.....again...melted the piston....not good for engine

thanks twist for the awesome pic

hm, how about a DR-Z250? i would like to do enduro and after i get a bike i plan on racing, but i wanna work on riding for a year before actually racing, so i would be 16 and too old for AMA youth racing, so i dont think a mini would work, what bike would work well for enduro and what characteristics should a good enduro bike have?
edit:also the guy at my suzuki/honda/yamaha dealer said by next year at the latest i should be tall enough, so i think i might get a CR or RM 125 and learn to control it for a year and go easy at first (for a few months because it will be the summer so i can ride every day, as i have a local riding spot 5 mins away, i normally push my bike there lol. i think ican learn to ride with more power, just take baby steps in that process. mainly my focus is having a nice ride for enduro racing so what 2t would be best, and the YZ is ruled out because its 2 inches bigger at the seat than the others and ill be just big enough for the CR/RM when i get it. i looked at classes and i would try 125cc C Class would that be good for a beginning racer?i think i will probably get the CR125 as i am looking and theyre cheap, and as woodsrider_adam posted about his trouble with his RM, i am starting to doubt buying an RM. would the CR make a good enduro?
also, i would like to stick with a japanese bike because i dont have a KTM/Husqvarna/Husaberg Dealer within a half hour. as posted before i would like to ride 2t, so what is the best suited for enduro out of all of them except the YZ?

the drz250 is way to heavy, and slow, and you being 5 foot.......with the bike being to heavy it might be hard to catch if it starts to tip....get a light 125 2-stroke....cut the foam down in the seat....lower the rear shocks, and if need more lowering someone makes a lower rear shock linkage....go to your local shop and ask about it

ok, i will get a 125 2. i sat on two as i said and both had stock seats on them, so maybe i could use an RM85 seat? and i would get the suspension set to be very plush and lower it a bit

no don't use a different seat....take the seat in and see if they can shave it......then get the lowering linkage

All you need is your tip toes to touch, and your bike don't have to be real plush to lower it. Do what adam said and it will work fine.

ok, i can already touch with the tips of 1 foot at a time, so maybe just 2 inches lower so its the height of an 85
