IF anyone to do with the magazine happens upon this post, I have an idea for an article.

While reading through your "Long Haul" RMZ250, and how you broke down the cost of the bike over an extended period of time I was thinking.... since one of the most asked questions is, "How much more does a four stroke cost compared to a two stroke?" an idea came to mind.

How about a long haul series comparing a two stroke bike and a four stroke bike through a season of racing, taking each bike to the same events with equal moto's and ridsers of comparable skill level. You could document each episode, the cost associated with racing and maintaining each type of bike througthout the season, and at the end of the year have a cost breakdown of each bike.

The idea would be to keep a running total of every item bought for each bike, fuel, oils, parts, tires etc... while adhering to the mfg's suggested maintenance schedule.

The bikes would be kept completely stock except for suspension setup for the riders to keep the comparison fair and a reflection of what the common guy racing his bike would experience for a years worth of racing a particular type of bike.

I'd be considerable interested to see the outcome of such a long haul project.

Anyone else like to see something like this?

good idea. maybe run a YZ250 vs. a Yz450 and some 250F vs. a 125. good idea.

that would be cool.  heck why not go all yami? yz250 vs yz450 and yz125 vs yz250f!  it would be the best comparison since they make the only 2-strokes anyone buys except for ktm.  u could compare yami 2-strokes 2 honda 4-strokes also cuz theres a lot of honda 4-strokes out there and they are competitive in stock form.  you should include the rankings comparison too.  maybe run a more local smaller mx season that the average guy could afford to run, because its intended for the average guy, and the 2-strokes would be more competitive in a local mx season.  make sure the riders arent crazy fast pros though cuz  that could mess stuff up.
