Hi everyone,
Originally, I wanted a honda Cr250r two stroke for mostly motocross and some trail riding, but recently a lot of people have been telling me a YZ250 or RM250 would do better. right now i own a ttr 125 and would like to move up, so I should be better at riding the yamaha than the suzuki RM. Since i have to get the bike second hand, can anyone tell me if when the YZ got a major redo? Thanks

Mmmm, if I'm correct the engine of the YZ250 has not suffered any major mods since 2002 or 2003. But in the chasiss and suspension there have been a lot of mods since then, the most important are the aluminium frame of the 05 model and the addition of the SSS forks in the 06 model. For 2008 there are some mods on suspenssion and a little more. So if its going to be used I suggest you find a good 06 or maybe 07 YZ250. And yes, the YZ is by now far better than the CR and a little better than the RM.

I would get a 125  or 250f before you get a 250 2t. I have a 250f and have ridden a couple 125s and I can see what people mean when they say that 125s make you a better rider. A 250f does the same thing too, just not as effectively. If I were you thats what I would do but if you dont want to do that go with the YZ, 05 and up if u want aluminum and 04 and down if you want steel. Suzook's are pretty good too but the YZs have been winning shootouts for a while now.

im really short on money right now (im 13), so i would rather get a 250 two stroke now, as i have ridden a cr before and liked it a lot, than buy a 125 or 250f and then upgrade to 250t, wasting a lot of money in the proccess. I would love to first step up to 250f and then 250t, but i probably don't have the money to make that happen.

go blue, 03 and up are wicked fast. 05 and up have the aluminum chassis and 06 and up have the better suspension. its still a Huge step up from a TTR hope you have good medical insurance. good luck and go to church

As the owner of the 05 and 06 YZ 250, Let me say that there is no better made today. BUT...At 13 you are begging to get hurt! You din't mention your hight and waight, But i'm willing to bet your not big enough or have the experience to ride this bike!
No way your going to handle this bike in the woods. Or the track. This is in no way a bust on you, But it's my opinion that recomending a 13YR old riding a TTR to get a YZ 250 is just not very responceble. Money is always a factore i know. But getting hurt bad is a bigger factore!
Please Re concider, And look for a cheap 125 or 250f!
You wan't to have FUN on a bike, NOT spend the day trying not to kill your self! Hope you will ponder this allitle more before making a decision.
       Sincerely,  YZ WOODS.

justin9, listen to woods. Go 125 or 250f first it will do you well for a long time and at 13 the right way to go. As woods said this is not a bust on you. If you go this way first you will be a much better rider in the long run.
I love this dirt stuff.

Absolutely I'm with pojp & woods. I had the same doubt some years ago, but I was lucky and some friend of mine let his Honda XR250 on my house so I could rode it and get used to a bike, and after I have rode it a lot and I was confident I take the next step and bought a 250 two stroke.

LOL.Glad you got ins. And you sound like a smart guy.
TRUST me. I'v rode these bikes for 20 years.
At your and exp, And level, You getting a YZ 250 is just not cool! Glad you are open minded as well!
The honda makes great 4 strokes! You could not go wrong with a cr250f! Or YZ250f. Again, Thanks for bieng smart!
Because thats what dirt biking is all about!
I can not beat my friend on my YZ 250 in the woods because he is semi pro on his YZ 125!
He is just to fast on his bike. He rode mine, and said he wants one, But knows he is faster where he is right now! THATS exp, And being smart!
