Looks like this year we'll be getting my kiddo his 50 since he hops on my friends lil 50 all byhimself arleady and at the mall he saw quads that were surrounded by a barricade and got on all fours and tried to crawl under there to get to teh quads lol. I like the crf50 but my hubby says ttr50 but also read that the suzuki jr50 is tbe best for beginners in a magazine forgot which one it was either dirt rider or dirtbike. What are yalls thoughts?

I bought my son, almost 6 (45" tall) and my daughter 7 (49" tall) a Yamaha TTR50. Why they haven't learned to shift yet, the bike is 3 speeds without a clutch. Slightly taller in the seat than a PW50, which is a single speed bike I believe. I got a hardly used 2007 off of Craigslist with gear for $750. It has a throttle screw, which the 6 year old needs but the 7 year old doesn't need. It has an electric start but no kick start.
They hold there value well and you can always move up. Seems like a good beginner bike for their age and height.
the Honda is very nice but I couldn't find one for a good price. The Suzuki has a seat hight adjsutment if they grow why they are still on the 50. I thought the KTM was too much bike for a young beginner.

Its hard to say, I think there all good. I got my grandson the 04 crf50 because I got it off a kid for $400. If that deal wasn't there im not sure which one I would have got. Most likely a Yamaha sence im a Yamaha guy. But I got to say that 04 crf50 is a good running bike.
I love this dirt stuff.

We started our boy on a Honda CRF50 they are a great bike. We did notice that 2nd gear works out better when they are learning. 1st is jerky when they are on and off the gas and 2nd is a little more forgiving. You can turn in the throttle screw and still keep the speed down. If you do decide to have your kid race get them on a KTM mini adventure, those bikes smoke everything else in the 50 class.

Should i let him ride with riding pants and helmet if i can find anything that fits his small head?

The pw50 for sure on a guy that small. My 4 yr rides one great and a friend bought a ttr50 for his 5 y/o and is struggling a little. The ttr is quit a bit heavier and has alot more torque when you take off. The pw is really light and agile in comparison making is easier for the little guys to handle when their just learnig. It is also plenty fast for a first bike and has throttle screw as well. You can also find some great buys on these.

I checked the fox stuff out the only thing he can wear from them is the toddler pant and jersey everything else is a tad too big. He wears a size 2t or 3t in shirts and he wears size 6.5 toddler shoe.
oh and i looked at some used bikes on cycle trader and craigslist omg these ppl are nuts they want either a grand or 900 for 04 to 07 bikes i may as well buy him a new one at those prices

Make a wise choice, All of them are great and reliable. JR s the smallest of the top 4 but it aso comes down to your budget, remember gear adds up also. Most time Honda has a PKG on bike and gear and training wheels. hillsborocycle.com on oregon has o6 new in crate for $700.00 nothing differnt on new ones. You should be able to buy any 08 for $999 depends how bad the dealer wants to sell it. They buy everyones old stock on any year and sell cheap.

pw50 all the way, they just do not die, you can beat the living *** out of them, and they won't quit. not much work to keep them going either. they are the greatest starter bike in history.

If i lived in oregon it would be awesome. Im pretty good at finding deals just looking for a 50 that suzuki is the cheapest one so far ive seen.here in southern cali is gonna be a pain cause everyone wants a grand or near it for 2004-2007. I rather buy it used cause i have a feeling he will outgrow it kid likes to go fast and isnt scared of speed. I created a lil monster lol
