Well, yall have persuaded me to go ahead and get the yz 250. It is a brand new yz 250 and were wondering what you all think about the 04's. YZ woods i would like ur opinion because I understand you have a yz 250. I'm going to put a fmf gnarly pipe with a silencer, and putting a bigger fly wheel. So my question is how do you alll like the  04's.

Well green214. I'v had the 05,06 and rode the 04.
Good news and bad news. The 04 is a solid bike and will keep you happy. Its a 03 with few mods. And alittle heavy. But a great bike all around.
Bad news. Riding it and the 05 is like night and day!
Yamaha came with the aluminum frame, Suspention, and alot of after market goodies that made it the best stock race bike out of the creat. The stock pipe and set up is just good to go. If you can, The 05 is MUCH better and holds it re sale value better. And you can find one in the same ball park as the 04. Just my opinion. Post back.

Also...I'm not putting down the 04. There really hasent been a BAD year for the YZ un like honda.
But your right at the cusp of a really good bike and a great bike in one year. Just makes sence to get the 05.

Aluminum frames make all the differeance.  We should thank Honda for making that gamble and testing it in the premier class.  (Even if the '97 frame was too stiff)

I Agree fully. Honda was always inovated and had the best 2 stroke out.
But they gave up and still sold shity 2strokes after they knew they were out.
Yamaha waited on the frame, And them capitalized on that and made the best 2 stroke frame made today. And spent the time and money to intergrate that with the best suspention and moter. THEN added all the after market Bars,Tires,Spring,Forks,Pegs, and set up that makes it the best 2 stroke made! Tried,True,And blue!

green14 the 04 was and still is a very solid performer
yes the new chassis and suspension are better, but a new 04 will cost less to own and maintain  (initially)than a used 05 or newer.. let your check book decide
you did say "BRAND NEW" im i correct.

I agree MJP. The 04 is a solid bike. But brand new 05s are still out there.
If i had a choice between a USED 05 and a brand new 04 i would get the 04 all day. But would look for a new 05.
Any Brand new YZ is sweet! Nothing like a new bike.

Yes, this is a brand new bike, it has been started a couple of times. The frame is not even worn, nor the dang tire. I was looking at the specs and the weight difference was only like 4 pounds. I don't see how that can make a difference. We are looking at a bunch of yz's from the 04 to 06, I like them all, the fact that this 04 is brand new gets my attention, but I do hear that the 05 is more stable, I have a feeling that that steel frame on that 04 would feel stiff, but idk. But would you all recommend putting that fly wheel weight on, and gnarly pipe on there. I'm using this bike for pure trail and hill climbing. I've got my kx 250f's for that! haha

i had an 03 yz250 and it handled very well in all circumstances, stability was never a problem. it doesnt need any more low end power, the flywheel weight might tone if down a bit (in a good way) ride it stock for a while.

If you can get a brand new 04, Then get it. But i dont understand how you found a NEW 04 and cant find a NEW 05?
As for the fly, A 13oz will smooth the power, just make shure you bolt and not weld it.
The weld on is more stable but a bi.. to get off.
Its 120$ to put on by a dealer. And really helps to spread and smooth the power band.
The 04 hits hard in high 3rd as i remember.
And 4 pounds is ALOT. Its the whole FEEL of the bike that i'm talking about. But like i said, a New 04 is better then a USED 05. Up To you. You asked, and just trying to give you the best info that i KNOW from owning these bikes.

YZWOODS  You siad Yamaha came out with Aluminum frame in 2005 on the YZ250.  What about the YZ125?  I have an 2003 YZ125,  did they come out with a Aluminum frame on the 125 since then?
