What are you looking for in a bike. The 2-stroke will come on hard in the top end and givve you quite a thrill, but the 4-stroke will have a more consistent power range. The 4-stroke has advantages coming out of a tight corner immediately into a jump, and in trail riding where you don't want to be spinning the rear tire.

The 2-stroke is good for trail riding too, but you have to learn how to handle the burst of powerbefore you end up head on into a tree.

Give us an idea of what kind of riding you want to do.

i ride mostly trails and such. but i really want to get into racing. if i get a four stroke it will most likely be a 250r not the one with the light

I think you should plan a trip to the local track and watch the racing there. See what riders your same size are riding. Note whether the track is highly technical or long runs and wide open.

Also pay attention to the difference in the 2-strokes vs. the 4-strokes. Identify what the strengths and weaknesses of each are.

This will be the best way to make up your mind. Go, Watch, pay attention, and think about what fits your style.

The 125 or 250f is a good fit for your height and weight.
I love this dirt stuff.

I seen a 2004 suzuki rm250 for sale at the races for 1800$ cash and wish I had the money.
A 250f sounds like what you need fella, easier to grow on i  think.

I agree the 250f is probably the best choice. I think it will be better for the trails, you really need to keep the rpms up on the 2 stroke or you could have problems fouling plugs. As far as racing the bike a 250f will do everything you need. I have been racing mine for a few years now and I have yet to use all of the power through the whole track.
