This spring i am buying a new bike and i was wondering weather i should get the 2007 or the 2008 yz250f. I probly will only compete 3 or 4 times during the season most of the time im jsut riding with friends at a local track. Whichever bike i get will be brand new from a dealer but the dealer said they had some 2007's left for almost 1000$ cheaper then a 2008.
So i was wondering are there many differences between the 07 and 08 models. Im thinking of getting the 07 just because its so much cheaper but i wanted you guys' opinions.
This is my first 4 stroke. All last season i rode a 1997 rm125

get the 07 if its 1000 cheaper. Yamaha makes slight revisions to the bikes every year, if your only gonna compete a few times then save the money and get the 07. The 08 has a black cover case, slightly lighter front end, and mabey a little more power. Its not noticeable enough to worry about tho. So unless your really driven to get the newer bike, id say go with the 07

thats pretty much what i was thinking. i didnt notice too many changes form the 07 to 08. i could care less about the black engine cover and the engine compression on the 08 is 13.5:1 compaired to 12.5:1 of the 07 and its sposed to give a little more power all around but im not too conserned cuz the 07 is 1000 cheaper

I agree - get the 2007 (that's what I have) ![]()
In addition to what curmston noted above, the 2008 has a higher compression ratio piston, which gives it a bit more bottom end. But - for much less than $1,000 you can put a high comp piston in a 2007 model. Personally though, I don't think it needs it.

I have a FMF PowerCore 4 slip on, which boosts the mid a bit, and doesn't hurt or help the top and bottom. The only reason I put it on was for trails, and here in CO they require spark arrestors (which the FMF has). The FMF fit and finish is awesome.
The power is great - it feels like a 125 2-stroke with a really strong bottom end.
This is a great bike - runs great, has a history for relaibility, and is awesome both on the trail and track - you won't be disappointed..

Well i have the 08, and i'm going to have to tell you to get the 08. But they are both excellent bike. The 08's have a stiffer rear spring that is perfect for the track. Plus the 08 has wider pegs, and the pegs are set down lower too. My 08 has got power everywhere! The only problem i have with the 08 is that the oil pan sticks out right in front and has no protection, but i figured that out by getting a bigger skidplate . Both are great but it is up to you. cough 08

I would recommend getting the 07. Its a 1000 bucks cheaper and its brand new. The only advantage to the 08 is that the resale value would be higher. The 08 has slim inprovements. The top end was changed to a higher compression and I think the exhuast port was enlarged.

The 07 for sure. You will get on that bake and think it was made for you. Im sure the 08 would feel the same but $1000 less its no contest.
I love this dirt stuff.

go with the 07 my friend has it and he loves that bike. the bikes are almost the same i heard the 08s were a lil taller tho. but ya considering its brand new go with the 07 just for the price. u have to think that you arent gonna get either bike to its maximum potential either way becuz u arent a pro and the 07 will haul u around the track just fine. plus u gotta think payment plans and all that..go with the 07
