If you took a CRF250X and a CRF250X and put them in a drag race to top speed with the same traction, perfect shifts, same size and skill riders ect... Witch would get to top speed fastest? Witch would have the highest top speed? What would the top speed of the CRF250R be, concidering I know the CRF250X does about 69mph. I am considering buying one of the following, 05 CRF250X, 05 KX250F, 05 YZ125, 06 CRF250R. I will be racing harescrambles, so the CRF250X seems like the right choice, but I  want to concider all of my options. Thanks.

I would go with the 250x if you plan on racing harescrambles. A big plus for the 250x is the electric start. I own a 250r, I love it, I just wish it had an electric start.

The 250x is a reliable bike, and easy to ride. The Cr250R will out pull the 250X by far on any Sunday and is also reliable. You must be alittle more of a seasoned rider to take advantage of the 250R. Top end all depends on the gearing, (sprocket choice). The 250R geared correctly again will out pull with a higher top speed guaranteed. Don't let anyone fool you, a two stroke is more powerfull and lighter than a 4 stroke cc for cc. It is only becacause of the amount of raw fuel put into the atmosphere when you're off the pipe that the 2 strokes are being phased out. (look out if the factories produce direct injected 2 strokes).
Good luck racing, stay out of the trees.

PS - The bottom end of a 2 stroke is as if not more reliable than a 4 stroke. The top end on a 2 stroke may need to be serviced more often than a 4 stroke. But at the end of the season add the time and money spent on each, keeping them in peek performance; again the 2 stroke wins.

Can you get an electric start for a CRF250R?

You couldn't get an electric start on the R stock. You would have to pay a lot of extra money to buy a kit and install it, they might not even make a kit for it.

The 250R will accelerate much faster than the the X. THe X will have a higher top speed, but from what I know there isn't a time to go 70 mph in a hare scramble. Then engine life is pretty much the same, it depends on how hard you push the engine. THe X has a light and the R doesn't
