Used or new? YZs have been the top choice for years, but do not rule out the other brands if the price is right and the bikes are in good shape. Unless you ride the bikes back to back you will never notice any difference in the bikes. All 250 2 stroke make plenty of power to play with. The YZ just doles it out the smoothest.

Honda CR250 '00-'01, Suzuki RM250 '03-'08, and Yamaha YZ '00-08 are all good bikes. The Suzuki is the least reliable, but is still a good bike. Kawaskis are different; you either love them or hate them. Be sure to shop around and not settle for a bike that was not taken care of. Take a friend who rides with you for a second opinion, and to stop you from impulse buying. Getting a new bike is exciting which can lead to a rushed decision. Good Hunting.

Hey Elk,
Good news. The '98 CR125 was not a bad bike. It's frame was much better designed that the previous years attempt with the 250. The engine suffered a little from the new design. It was the same as the 97 which was good, but the new frame caused a little hickup in the air flow. Look into a powernow system and a vforce reed cage with an FMF SST pipe and shorty silencer. A port and polish could really help the power too.
It will cost some money, but if you replace nearly all of the bearings, slap in a fresh top end, get some new handle bars and grips, new plastic graphics and seatcover, new brake pads, new reed petals, repack the silencer, and slap on some fresh tires your bike can feel brand new. Of course for the smae amount of money you could go buy another bike.

i no it was a good bike. but not every bike is kept in good shape. like mine i bought mine because i needed a new bike, i had a $1200 and the bike cost 1200 so without thinking i bought it right on the spot. the previous owner turned this bike into a peice of crap. for how much i put into this bike i could've just bought a newer one.

If you can ride a 125 you can ride any bike lol!
and if your riding a CR it has more low end power soo it might feel sort of similar

The only bottom end a CR125 has is it's skid plate. They are very much Mid and Up engines. Teh only 125 with a skosh of bottom end is the YZ. Even then I think it's only good for the slow going through the pits.

The first bike I bought was a YZ250, I didn't have a 125 first. The YZ is one of the best, if not the best bike on the market, atleast I think so.

Honda CRF250, go 4 stroke. Once you had a 4 on the track you'll never go back.
