You did it right.
I think your cylinder is plated - if so, you can just send it in to be replated and have no overbore. i think the cost is around $150.

ok so i did some more inspecting and measuring...if the cylinder and piston look really good and the ring is burnt up, do you think i would be ok to just get a ring for it. im looking to sell it when im done and dont wanna sink much into it, but i dont wanna rip anyone off either. specially since someone ripped me on the trade for this thing

If the piston and cylinder measure within spec, and the cylinder has no chipping, gouges, or shiny spots, then it is absolutley fine to put a ring on and call it good. The ring nearly always wears out befor the piston and definitely before the cylinder (barring a seizure or mechanical failure).
I regularly replace only the ring on my motors when I freshen the topend, and I'll do it for the same case you have - good cylinder and proper specs onthe piston - the only thing worn is the ring.
