Hello all. I rebuilt my yz 125 last night using a flat top wiseco piston, phatheads racing head, and i also put in a v-force three reed valve. I turn the gas on and start kicking and gas come pouring out the overflow. So i pull the carb apart and clean it, hink the floats were stuck. That stopped the gas out the overflow but now acts like its not getting enough? How do i set the floats. Like how do i physically move the float up and down. Its a mikuni tmx36ss carb with one down on the main, and two down on the pilot. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and Semper Fi.

not really sure exactly what u got, but if u hold the carb in ur hand with the bowl off at eye level u should be able to push the floats up and see the fuel valve (looks like a rocket) start to push into the seat area. The valve should seat when the floats are parallel with the bottom of the carb. A manual could give u the exact dimension but this will get u close. BTW if ur bike ran good before u shouldnt have a problem with the floats now.

Hoo-ah!
You adjust the float by bending the tab in the center of the floats. However, I agree with ML - if the floats were right before the rebuild, they should be good now..

Just went and tried starting it, it started smoked like hell and had shitty response. Now when i try and start the plug is fuel soaked after two or three kicks. Any ideas. Im getting really pissed off.

You bend it up to lower the floats and down to raise them.. By up, I mean when the float is installed the tab would be bent closer to the carb body...
I have a shop manual for your bike - do you need me to look up the proper float height for you?

Nope finally got it set. Floats were wrong. Its still idles and picks up like a pig. Pilot jet seemes to lean as the air screw is 2 1/2 turns out to start it but then it bogs badly and smokes like its running rich? No idea. Its pissing me off really bad. Starting is a *** mixed at 32:1, one hotter on the plug.

What color is ur smoke? And when u look at the plug is wet with fuel or coolant? I think if ur air screw is out 2 1/2 turns then ur pilot circuit is too rich not lean. Skip could help u better with that, but i would start to check for another issue for ur hard starting and poor running.

At 2.5 turns out, yeah - you need a smaller pilot. Also try the clip in pos 2 and pos 3 - see which gives better response. You can deal with the main after the pilot and needle circuit are good... I'd stay with the BR8EG plug and 32:1...

To change the needle clip. First, you REALLY should have a manual. Take the fuel tank and side panels off. Loosen the clamps on either side of the carb. Take the screws that hold the top of the carb off. The cable and slide will come out (with the needle in the center of slide). There is usually a platic cap that holds the throttle cable in place - examine it - there should be a pisition where you can easiily remoce the cable. Pop the needle out. - It just comes out. If you move the clip to a groove closer to the blunt end of the needle, it will lean your mixture - if you move it to a groove closer to the pointy end, it will richen the mixture. The clip pops on and off with your finger - or against a countertop - it's just a c-clip.
