Hey guys,

I rode for about 10 years (5-15 y/o)started on a 50cc at 5 and worked my way up to end with an RM 125. I've been away from dirt bikes for about 15 years now (street bikes only) and would like to get back into riding. I don't want to race, just ride around the local track and have some fun. Safe fun but fun nonetheless.

Is a 230 going to be too boring for me since I'm used to 2 stroke bikes? I hear a lot of negative comments with regards to the 230 performances VS the 250.

Thanks for your input!

Yes, you will get bored quickly! Why not a 250 2st.?

yes i agree 4 strokes are not fun especially when your always tearing down the engine to do valve maintenance. i think you should get a 250 two stroke.

almost never have to do valve maintenance on the 230 and not even alot on the 250f for that matter.
Putting an FMF on a Kawasaki is like putting Mayo on a PB and J sammi.

Get the 250 4stroke. And if you don'y race it that hard you don't have to do that much maitnence. The 250 has a 4 inch Higher seat height than the 230. You will enjoy the power of the 250 way more than the 230. The 230 will get boring quickly. 4 strokes are fun you just have to get the right engine size, I agree that the 230 wouldn't be that much fun but the 250 will be.

Well, that's pretty much my answer. 250 it will be! I've never really considered the 2-strokes that much since I thought they were more maintenance. I remember my dad doing the top-end of my bikes every other year or so while his 4-stroke was a steady, reliable ride... I guess I'll just have to learn how to do valves.

Thanks a lot guys, you've made my purchase crystal clear!

Two strokes are not cheaper to maintain. Thats bogus. Two get terrible gas mileage, need top ends alot more often, and are always fouling those spark plugs. Iv owned a yz250 and a yz450 and the 450 is much cheaper for me to run. I race so I know how much it counts to have a bike last the whole moto. In the end they cost about the same to run.

I respectfully disagree and there are several others that believe the same as me and i also must say that i fund the 450f to be more clumsy then the nimble 2 stroke 250
but who the hell cares we are all on two wheels here

Well, I hate to end this thread, given the broad scope of opinions I'm collecting here but I traded my snowmobile for a CRF250R yesterday.

I love the bike so far and will be riding it on the track for the 1st time tonight. Hope I can still type afterwards LOL!

Thanks again for the great tips/opinions!!

Good choice!!! Alittle small but will have fun on it!
I was going to recomend a 125 2, or a 250f.
Your not looking to launch tripples! just have fun.
If i were to get a 250f it would be a honda as well.
Have fun and dress SAFE. And please let us know how you like it and a pic if you can

Well, got on the track yesterday (after a semi-hurricane hit Ottawa) and it was SLIPPERY!! Been a while since I rode on a track and it took me a few laps to get the hang of it again, especially in the clay-like terrain they have here. Overall very good choice, not too powerful but enough kick to launch out of tight turns. Will need to get proper gear though, banged my knee on a handle bar and can still feel it this morning.

Picture coming tonight! )))
