I know how to get a dent out of your pipe, torch the thing and melt it into a new, usabler piece of metal.
Save the enviroment, make a new pipe with the molten metal.

Ok, there's a couple steps you have to take in order to legalize your dirt bike. First thing you need to do is look up the requirements for your state. In california, your bike has to have blinkers, mirrors, high beams and low beams, DOT tires, a steel gas tank, and a horn. However, it's also impossible to get a bike registered in California at all now unless it's dual-sport from the dealership. Most states are heading in this direction as well.
You can buy kits from "Baja Designs" that have all of the parts for most bikes excluding tires and steel tanks. Once you attach all the necessary parts, usually you have to go to a licensed place (dealerships or repair shops are often licensed) with your bike and they have to physically inspect it to make sure it meets the standards, and then they sign it off and you can apply for the registration to the DMV and you'll get your plates.
However, I don't recommend plating your bike to use it as your primary means of transportation. They really just aren't designed to be on the street; they start to fall apart and the engine has to wail to keep up to speed on the pavement. The only reason you should be plating a strictly dirt bike is if you do long distance rides that sometimes cross pavement. Mine is plated, and the only time it hits pavement it to cross the highway to get somewhere else off road. If you are looking into buying a whole new bike for riding in the dirt AND on the street, then go for a dual sport. Most companies have several new dual sports out in several sizes. Or, think of buying a cheaper street bike if that's what you want it for.

yea, I'm pretty much brand-new to the forums. I've been reading the magazine for years and never really thought to look at the website too much until recent, so here I am.
