I cannot hold onto a bike for more then a few months it seems like.

I am always trying to find a better bike, as I am never contempt with the one I have.

I finally jumped on a bike I think works...ready for this? YZ250.

I bought a mint 2001 YZ250 a few weeks ago and even though the suspension sucks and it doesn't quite handle like my 250F, I have no ambition to get on the YZ250F or YZ450F which are both 2006's.

Anyways, I am thinking of selling all of my bikes (06 YZ450F, 06 YZ250F, and 01 YZ250). I want something new, and a challenge, yet a bike I know I can stay happy with. How does a 06+ YZ125 and YZ250 combo sound?

I thought about keeping my 250F, but what would be the point of that when it races the same class as a YZ250? And to be honest, I'm just sick of messing with the 4 strokes complex engine, I want something more simple since my bikes are not free, nor am I pro!

I already have an offer on my 250F, so I might be able to sell it within a week. I am still working on my 450. I cannot understand why no one wants my 450. That thing is mint and priced very reasonably! AS for the 250, I bought it for 1K so I am not worried about getting my money out of that, I should be able to put an aggressive price and sell it quick!

Opinions anyone!?

Damn good idea. I love 250 2 smokes. They are great. the 125 will definitely compliment it nicely for a fun bike. You race the 250? One of the best ideas i've heard on here. Only wish i had the bikes and money to have the situation your in lol do it up!

Pin_it - if you're crazy then I'm certifiably cookoo.

I've bought new bikes and sold them before I put even an hour on the motor.  I've probably owned 50 or more bikes in my life..The 'perfect' bike doesn't exist!

My YZ85 - I'm a grown man - why THIS bike?  It's a hoot, and I can literally toss it in the back of my truck when I go camping.  It's great to mess around with..
But sometimes I want to go to the track... ok - I've got a YZ250 for that and I LOVE IT!!
But then there's the CRF150R.  Not sure why I bought this bike.. it's great for really tight trails - ultra maneuvarbale, but with the traction of a 4-stroke.
But for other trails, and for track, I've got a YZ250F.  OK - I sold the 250F because the YZ250 is a MUCH better track bike.  The list goes on and on..

We love bikes.  We love riding.  No one bike is going to be 'the best' at every type of riding we do.

So what's my advice?  At the risk of sounding arrogant, I have all these bikes because I can afford to.  Many people can't.  If I had to have only one bike, it would be an 05 or later YZ250.  There's very few things that bike doesn't excel at.  If I could only have 2 bikes, I'd say the YZ250 and either the CRF150R or the YZ250F - a good thumper can be an assett when you know the traction is going to sukk...
The YZ125 is an amazing mount - no question about it.  If all I did was track, then it would be a YZ250, with a YZ125 in the wings.  But I do more than track, so a 250F or a 150F is more useful to me as a 2nd bike than a YZ125.

skip, we sure do relate well!

RCannon over at TT told me to stay with my 01 because it is an amazing bike. I tossed that idea around as well-Sell the 450, and use that money to buy a newer YZ250.

I think a late model yz125/yz250 combo should keep you happy for a while. use the 125 for playriding and practice (it will force you to be agressive) and the 250 for the races. keep in mind those times you were wishing for more power from your 250f will still be there with the 125, but the superlight weight and near perfect handling will keep you grinning from ear to ear.

i say get a new yz250. i am getting an 08 or 09, too. then decide if you want a 125 to practice on or a 250f for everything else. i dont think practicing on a 250f will help your times but like mjp said a 125 teach you to ride more aggresively. if i could only have 2 bikes it'd be a 125 and 250. but if i could get 3 it'd be a 125, 250, and 250f.

Naw, when I was young and not married I would get a new bike every year (street and dirt).

Of course those days are long gone now...

I think guys are just starting to realize just how hard those 450s are to hang-on to.  Or they want the newest ones off the floor.

My advice is to get a newer YZ.  Then get yourself a more trail specific bike since you seem to take a few trips off the track.  And lastly if you can afford it.... a Trials bike.  Not only are they a blast to throw around, but your riding skills will really improve on one.
