Just to give you an idea, 97,  I pulled the valve cover on my CRF150R after the 2 hour break in and two of the valves were tight.  I pulled the cover again at 10 hours, and had a tight valve again.  Now bear in mind, I baby this bike and it's never bouncing off the rev limiter.

I've seen CRF250R's tighten the valves in one weekend of hard riding...

The WR450F comes "detuned" from the factory.  Its easy to un-cork it but the point is if its basically stock its tame to ride; but can easily be set up more like a YZ-450F power wise later.

Its as easy as using the YZ-450 throttle stop screw, unplugging a wire on the ignition, and removing the very small inner baffle on the exhaust.

I guess I owe Yama97 a big apology.  I was unaware that he has enough talent to make a living as a professional rider with a room full of trophies.  That he knows many other riders out there who could whoop JS, RC, RV, CR, and any of the other racing stars out there.  They just were never given a sponsership, and the best bikes.

Truth is James Stewart could probabably get top 5 on his old KX125 if not win the big bike class.  He would beat most any other rider with their own bike too.  These guys have a whole lot of talent and would be successful in any riding disipline they choose.  For you to tell me you can push your bike just as hard is a little too much for me to swallow.

I am in agreeance with bhorrigan. If you really did have the talent, and really could push your 450 as hard as you say you can, then you would have been recognized and would be sponsored. Face it, you dont push your bike as hard as it was made to be able to handle, and beyond. Theres a reason top racers get new bikes after every race, not because they dont like scratches and mud. It's because they beat the hell out of those bikes. Can YOU wear a bike down to its frame in 2 hours of riding? I think the bike would wear you down to the bones. ~pat.

Us desert boys lol Yeah I race motocross as well. I do desert endero and starting freestyle and long distance jumping. I think I can push a 450 very close to its limits. There are thousands of riders who can. Just because you see Chad Reed and James Stewart race every weekend doesnt mean they are the fastest guys on the planet. I will bet there are at least 100 plus guys who can kick there ass but dont have the sponsorship or the money to try.

uhhh, no.... fro people to get as good as JS and RC they have to travel the country racing constantly when growing up. its not like theres some dirt bike racing gure on some mountain in india dude.... the best are right here in america. chad reed moved here hoping to take moto_x as a serious career. if there was anyone as fast as JS he would have challenged him  by now so he could get the sponsor and money you said they dont have...

When you hear people saying a 4 stroke will last forever, they are probably talking about 4 strokes pre supercross competition. Ever since the Yamaha 426 came out, thats when 4 strokes became associated with "maintenance" so long as you leave out the random bikes of the 70's and 80's who's brand failed...for a reason.

A Honda XR (2.5-35HP) anywhere from the 80's to today will last 1000 rides as long as you change the oil.
Whereas a Honda CRF (12-50HP) will ask for various maintenance tasks to be performed, if you want to keep running with the 2 stroke bikes.

You can make any engine have double the HP, though it will only last a few hours! Thats why drag cars replace their engines all the time.

I rode XR's all my life, and today own a KTM 300 two stroke. Rebuilding a two stroke is simple, Rebuilding a modern high HP 4 stroke...heh no thanks!

I love the response of a 2 stroke...technically speaking it responds twice as fast as a 4 stroke.

if you want the least amount of maintenance go with 4 stroke trail bike, as long as you do the regular maintenance on it (changing oil, cleaning air filter and re-oiling it, checking the spokes, tire air pressure, make sure your radiator is topped off, check the valves) and don't ride it like you stole it you could prolly go years with out problems or having to do anything to the topend. if you went with a 2 stroke you'd prolly have to do a top end on it once a year which once you know what your doing would take an hour or 2 max.

the two stroke is a much cheaper bike. i have been looking for a new for a couple months now. i have been looking everywhere craigslist bike trader and a bunch of places. an 2004 250 two stroke will cost just under 3000 dollars and be in tip top shape. a 2004 250 four stroke will cost about 4000 dollars and might blow up the next day.

if a 250f is not powerful enough for you then you are not riding it right. try riding a 250 two stroke. they will cost less and have the same maintence as a trail four stroke for the exception of doing a piston and ring once a year, and this is very easy to do. it will take you maybe an hour your first time then after that you should be able to do it in no time at all. they are way better trails bikes too.

well i am definitely not biased. i can be sometimes but when someone wants my serious opinion i give it. and i am definitly not different. i was the one that first told you on your other thread.

i say get a 125 or 250 two stroke. doing maintence on two stroke is much easier to do too. they are race bikes but have no extra maintence like race 4 strokes so you can brag to all your friends about having a top of the line race model bike.

ummm not really but the closest thing to that you will findto that is the KTM Trail bikes, you can get the KTM EXCs which are street legal but they are 4 strokes (with head/tail light and signal lights).

The reason i like 2 strokes is they are a simpler machine to maintain. theres less parts to break on you. you can also setup a 2 stroke MX bike to be a great trail bike, i have a 125 2 stroke and love to trail ride on it(but im also like 40 pounds lighter then you).

the two strokes are the greatest trails bikes ever made, that is why that all the pro trails racers still use them.

look on ktm's website they two strokes with electic start and all that good stuff.
