i know that four stokes are maintenace bugs and have all sorts of problems with valves and stuff,,but i dont beat my bike to hell, and i never hit the rev limiter. is it still a ticking time bomb?? even if i keep the rpms low??

hard to say man. some people can go ten years without doing anything to their bike. some people end up blowing it all after 3. What year is your bike? keeping the rpm's low would make it last a bit longer but essentially i think it will go. and thats $$$ ~pat

I haven't had any time on a four-stroke bike, but my dad bought a Honda four-wheeler in 2002 brand new off the lot, and I used to ride it around the country like I rode my 2-stroke's. we've never done anything to it besides change the oil once a year? haha, it's taken a hell of a beating and it still goes like a champ. probably because it's a honda.

no low rpm's will not help it. a combination of going fast with low rpm's will help a little bit.

We have a 01, 04 and 07 yz250f. We take of our bikes real good. The 01 is still going strong and has only had regular maint. So if you take care of your bike no matter what it is it will take care of you.
I love this dirt stuff.

In the 2 years my dad had his RM-Z250 we never did a valve adjustment and only changed the oil, oh, 3 times and it still ran like new the day he sold it.
Putting an FMF on a Kawasaki is like putting Mayo on a PB and J sammi.

i talked to a mechanic from of mine today that just rebuilt my friends engine..and he said the oil and air filter are main things that make your bike last long, and ofcourse adjusting your valves here and then. he said some of bikes he worked on have lasted 4-5 years! just on maintenance of oil and air filter. eventually your crank could go out like my friends did.. but keeping on your oil changes and especially keeping air filter clean...and checkin on valves will make your bike last long time.
also im not sure why you have a racing bike if you arent hitting rev limit

i just wanted to say that honda has the best 4 strokes, but the 05 had valve problems and their are ways to fix that but the newer ones have a higher rev limiter then the rest of the companies so while everyone else is hitting there rev limiter at 12000 rpm you can ride at 12000 rpm and still have another 2000 rpm to play around with. and that is why the valves go quicker in the newer honda's

elko6... I have a 05 crf 450... paid 4800 for it and it runs prtty good, I hope you are wrong and this bike lasts me 20 years.
my family has had honda 50s from 1975 and they still run fine.. I imagine those werent driven as hard as my 450 though.
