Welcome to the board.  You are going to need a nickname already because that is just too much to type.  Since you are rebuilding a 4 stroke I am going to call you Bankrupt or Banks for short.

When you say top end on a YZ250F I think...

Intake valves- $133 x2  =$266
Exhaust valves- $145 x2 =$290
Center valve-           =$133
Timing Chain-           =$15
Piston, Ring, Gasket kit=$300
Valve Spring kit-       =$200
Assumed top end total   =$1204

To me this is a generous amount as I have not included any cylinder work, valve guides, special tools, bearings, shims, or spacers.  I don't even want to imagine the cost of paying someone else to do it either.

Ouch!

This is why I prefer two strokes.

I found a barely used head on ebay someone was getting rid of. Included; head, valves, springs, and cams. $180
I ordered a wiseco piston/gasket kit for $192 (dealer cost, i work for a dealer). my buddy is a mechanic at the dealer i work at and hes goin to help me with what i need, other than that i do all the work myself.

I know what im getting into with the used head but i have too many resources to worry about it.

and i know there are other costs too like grease, oil, etc. But like i said too many resources. And im only redoing the piston bc stock yami pistons suck and i have the engine case open so i figured i would just go ahead and spend the money to do it.
