I just bought a klx 450 (new) the first ride (while stock) was ok, definitely ran hot , I got the F2 jet kit and AIS removal kit with plug kit and a FMF Q4.Like I said it ran hot but I expected that from all of the articles. It also seems to idle inconsistantly almost like it was loading up. I was putting around following my 10 yr old on some pretty technical trails. After installing the jet kit and silencer it did help but still ran a little hot and after warming up sometimes it would just die whenever I would stop and it did still idle funny,I have the idle set a little high but nothing out of the ordinary. The F2 jetting is a 145 main and 45 pilot 3clips from top on the needle and 2and a half out on the air screw, basically factory stock seetings except for changing the needle. I read that DirtRider tests recommend a 160 main and 42 pilot and same on the needle (I haven't tried that yet , just wanted to try to save some time and headache if anyone may have some tips. I live in Ky at about 1000 ft above sea level.Right now the humidity stays around 80 -95 % and temp is avg 90. I am new to four stroke tuning but have a pretty good grasp on two stroke carb tuning.I submitted a similiar message before but was told to try changing the title to possbly draw some attention from skiph. I have been riding for 33 years but always on two strokes. Is this normal for the thumpers or am I asking for too much hoping to get that "crispness" from my 4 stroke that I used to get from my two strokes.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Give it some fuel dude! All these bikes were built 50 state leagal; that means California smog rules. I ride at 9000 feet and use a 164 main, 42 pilot with one needle spacer. It sounds like your pilot is too lean if your 2.5 turns out. Removing the top from the air box may also help.
