Yes they are we had 4 of them 2 twostrokes and 2 fourstrokes. We were CONSTANTLY REBUILDING AND TEARING DOWN THE TOP END.PARTS AREN'T THAT EASY TO FIND AND THEY ARE VERY HARD TO FIND WE EVEN TOOK TWO OF THEM(ONE 2STROKE AND ONE 4STROKE) TO ONE OF THE DEALERS AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED BUT AFTER TWO HOURS THEY WERE BLOWN TOP AND BOTTOM. THEY ARE EXPENSIVE PIECES OF JUNK.ALSO EVERY TIME YOU LAND A BIG JUMP THE TIRE COMES UP AND HITS THE FENDER ON THE FRONT AND HITS THE SILENCER ON THE REAR.

main diff is no linkage in the rear they use hydraulic clutches so less maint. other then that its pretty much the same, i've had my ktm almost a year and haven't had any problems with it... parts are easy to get as long as you have a dealer near by. PM me if you have any specific questions

remembered something else, KTMs don't use aluminum frames they are content on sticking to steel =)

KTM's typically are very reliable, but are very particular to bike set-up. Spring rates, oil height, and clicker position will pay big dividends on how the bikes suspension is and how the bike handles. That is the main difference. Get it set up and you are golden.

KTM's are  MINT  . They come race ready which is always a plus even if you don't race. My friend has an SX 85 and he got it used in 05 and even to this day it starts first, second kick and to be honest he doesn't take tha great care of it. I would definatly recomend a KTM to anyone aslong as you arn't really on a budget. A friend of mine who won in Ontario CMRC Championship 2 years rode stock KTM's. That just prooves they are good race bikes.

I take good care of my bike and it an 05 and still starts first kick as well. i bought it used with low hours i think its still running the original topend. planning on tackling the topend and clutch this winter!

to your question, the newer the better my friend.

and of course skill the bike alone wont do it he could have a bike made by god himself and loose if he didn't have the skill  . but i agree good bikes

ktm have the most expensive bikes and parts. they dont feel the same. you either hate or love a ktm. there 4 stroke really isnt that good. get an 06 or newer crf250r or a newer yamaha

This post has died. the conversation has obviously turned, shall we say youthfully uninformed?
if your looking for a new bike figure out what style and class rider you are then go to an event that is serving that class and style. while you are there look at all the pretty colors and pick one.
Seriously, don't be a band wagon guy but look at what is being run at your "event" and use that as a guide as to what to look at. Hell ask a few questions. I bet some folks even let you ride their machines.
luck, "cheers"
