I'm 50 (and female!) I had ridden a bit when I was a kid but I liked horses better back then.
My suggestions would be either the WR 250 or the 250X, which is what I have. It rides easy if that's what you want, but has plenty of power to grow into. If you do decide to go with the X, make absoutely sure the dealer jets the bike to Colorado specs.
I had a KTM 200 XC-W before the X and I can honestly say it was the best all around bike I've ever owned, but if you plan on riding with ATV's or other folks on trail bikes, the KTM would not be a good choice. It wants to be pushed hard and isn't happy just putting along.
Have fun and good luck!!

I am truely impressed by the reading content of this thread! At first when I saw all this thread I thought it was gonna be a bunch of "just get a bike and ride it dude. yo" responses. Everyone has really taken the time to explain in detail their own input which is why I like this board so much. With that said, I am 41 and just bought a 80cc bike to have fun zinging around the trails. I'll probably be the biggest guy out there on this size bike but i'll be having fun which is why I got back into riding. Good luck in your choice.

I'm 21 and i had no idea how many "older men" rode until i started working at a bike shop. (apex sports in colorado springs, co by the way). first of all older guys usually have the money for it, but some think u guys are goin through a mid-life crisis. i think thats bull. u guys are just usin the time and money u have now to do things u couldnt do as a kid. its a great sport for people of any age to get involved in. have a blast your still very young
