Hello,
Somewhat recently, I got a free dirt bike. It's an Suzuki SP 250 that looked like crap. However, I have brother who's antique car mechanic, and a master of motorcycles. With $15 of used parts he got it running great. We have 42 acres of property on Vashon Island with tons of trails that would be perfect for dirt biking. Unfortunately my brother moved back to New Jersey, so I really don't have anyone to learn from.
There's one other problem, I'm deathly afraid of going beyond 2nd gear. I've practiced a lot, but steering is a real difficulty for me. Nearly every time I go down a steep slope, I lose control and land on the grass/dirt/gravel.
Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Maybe if you tried leaning more into the direction you're going... and don't try to fight and resist your bike so much. That was hard for me to get a hang of cuz I'm so small but just keep practicin and you'll find your groove eventually

Thanks for the advice! I tried riding again. This time with no spills! Leaning always seemed a little counter-intuitive to me at first, but seems to be the key. And you're right about me fighting the bike, I now realize that I've been riding it like a bicycle. Thanks again - JTB

if its downhill your having problems with than put it in first gear before you go down and the engine will slow you down as long as you arent giving it gas and feather your brakes a little aslong as its not to muddy
If you can't fix it with a hammer, than you've got an electrical problem!
