i have ridden both, the 250 is way funner. plus the 450 i rode had a lot of problems. frequently too. which might account to why it wasn't as good as good as the 250. go to a dealer and try on out. they let you do that and a lot of people dont seem to try that.
life's a garden, dig it

no in the june issue of DR jimmey lewis had a really good article about the best mx bike and the 250 won. the 450 have so much torque the pros have to detune them so the power is more spread. a 250 has better response and feels way better at everything. the 450 feels like a tank while the 250 is agile and can be thrown around and it has a lot of power. most of the pros are forced to race 450 because of their contracts but a lot have came out and said if they had a choice they would race on a 250.

especially honda's, they were known to have valve issues, and i don't like the idea of having to keep shims around.
yamaha's have very stroke valves it seams.
kawi's make really good power and have a strong motor, there suspension is a lot better now, and so is the handling.
suzuki's have like.....totally sweet great almost unbeatable handeling, and there valves...i haven't herd any problems with there valves at my work. i have herd they have week clutches, but the cost of a new clutch basket sixes that. but i have herd they're 450's don't make as much power or have different power points than the other ones do....but thats not a thing to worry about with a 450.
ktm's make good power, what i like, come out of the create with a lot of nice extras. there bilt to be easy to work on, and have good handling. the things people don't like about them is the rear suspension doesn't have a linkage on it........(2010's models will, thats when ill probably get my ktm) they have strong motors, but there 144 has been having really bad problems with the cranks
![woodsrider adam]() thanks twist for the awesome pic

if you have an older 250 you may want to just get a newer one or do some work like suspension rebuild, engine and some new graphics but i definitly wouldnt get a 450

ya the 4 strokes need more maitenece and if your engine ever blows haha good luck ur down 2 grand while with a 2 stroke a rebuild is very cheap and less matinece 4 strokes are good bikes but valve adjustments this and that more mechnacil peices on the bike the more problems

honda and ktm had the strongest engines but there are different sides to this story.
the honda and ktm were matched together on the dyno but i heard some bad stuff about the ktm engine. everyone says the honda engine was horrible but it actually wasn't, it needs ridden like a 125. the engine was weird but very powerful. on a muddy track you can wheelie past everyone while they're stuck in the mud but it needs kept in the upper rpm's like a 125.
the yamaha is the most average bike out there. there is something on that bike that will fit everyone. it can be ridden in the woods or the track or whatever you want. it didnt score the highest in any category but came second in every category, the engine is the most usable but definitly not the strongest.
the suzuki's are alwesome at turning. the engine accelerates the fastest but is also weaker at top speeds. so basically the suzuki is great for a supercross track but bad on a track with long straight. the engine will tap out the fastest so that you will get to your top speed faster then the rest but your top speed will be lower and you may get headshake at top speed because the suspension was more set up for turning.
the kawasaki has a horrible suspension. it feels heavy when you ride. it feels like riding a chopper. it one the mxa shootout in 02 i think it was but has pretty much the same engine as yamaha. i would stay away from the kawi's if it were me.
so overall the yamaha has the best bike then i would put the honda second behind it and then the suzuki.
