My 200EXC won't start. I fouled a plug so I changed the plug and it still won't start. After I tried starting it, I took the plug out, It doesn't smell of gas. Maybe it isn't getting gas?

Ok, so I checked to see if it has spark and it doesn't.  What are the main things that could br wrong with it?

If when you kick it, it sounds like it's not even trying to start, you might need a new top end. You can determan if you need a top end or not be checking the compression level.

he says there isnt spark?. your magneto might be full of water. you might have some shorted wires. or your kill switch might be engaged. trace the wires from the switch back to teh engine. making sure there is insulation on all of it and no two bare ends are connecting. and that all plugs are firmyl connected and dry. ~pat

i copied and pasted that. is post. lol he might have very weak spark. just enough to get it going. it dont hurt to check. but yes. he might have a worn topend as well im just going by what he says. its all we got to go on from a couple thousand miles away haha. ~pat

He also says: My EXC 200 starts up, butt if I stall it after riding it for a while it won't start. What could be the problem?   If the bike starts cold, but won't start hot, the cause is usually a bad ignition stator. If the problem was compression it would get better when hot, not worse. Jetting doesn't "go bad,"  so the cause has to be ignition related. Black boxes just go usually, and they aren't that affected by heat. So I would say stator. Another possibility is fuel starvation. Bad vent on the gas cap, clogged or dirty petcock screen or whatever. The carb fills slowly, so when it sits it will start and run, but eventually the fuel can't keep up, and the bike quits. After it sits the carb fills and starts again. So check to make sure there is fuel coming out of the petcock. If it is, then it is time to change some ignition parts.

*** who are you moto? lol i like you. yes. good points. i dont know how he tested the spark. so i cant say how accurate it was. ussualy if it is a spark problem it wont run at all. and if it does it is very spotty. it'll miss some ignitions and stuff. i'd have him clean the carb and check hte fuel. what mix is he running? he says hes got a new plug eh? ~pat
