who you talking about, cause i dont think i was ignorant. i just can't stand when someone actually goes out and says that 125's are slow because they arent. if you ever saw rc or stewart on a 125 then you would completely agree that a 125 isnt slow.

sorry elko. this was directed at edwwinn or w/e it was. i agree wiht you wholeheartedly. im interested in hearing from him as to what he rides?~pat

yeah caue travis pastrana went ot and beat a open field on a 125 when he was younger and some of them had 500's, so the 125 isnt slow
everything looks better 35 ft off the ground...Generation DMF

exactly. i mean in a dead drag. on open tar. yeah it doesn't go as fast as some other bikes. but the acceleration on the 125's and hte 85's is nuts haha. ~pat

The TT-R125 makes as I recall about 8 HP (yup, thats all, but has good torque for its size).  A decent YZ-125 can make around 32-34 hp.

The TT-R has no real power band and you can pretty much whack the throttle any time (except slick stuff) and get away with it.  On the YZ if you do that it will likely bite.

The YZ will need to be kept in its power band to be happy.  I would recommend a couple of Gary Semics DVD's, #2 and #4 as they show proper body positions and how to master the controls Gary Semics DVD preview.

The YZ-125 is a great bike and plenty fast.

Dave is right , There fast and FUN! And as elk said always stay in atack position when on the pipe. I ride up on my tank and squeez the bike with my legs for better controle and less arm pressure and throttle controle.
If you get lazey on that yz and are in the power band and snap the throttle you could end up off it fast. Always have controle of the bike and be seated properly.
Remember to squeez the tank with you legs to get better arm controle and a easyer ride.

TTR 125 compared to a YZ 125...well there is no comparison really...I rebuilt a DRZ125 a short time ago and in testing it my son was riding with me on his PW50 and he was well not loosing any ground...although his PW is not well so normal anymore...

but dont try to compare the TTR to the YZ

You can keep the stock spring as you are easily within the target weight for this bike.  As the others have said you need to ride in a more forward position.  When the power kicks in (on the pipe) the bike will take off like a raped ape.  The trick to riding a 125 is learning how to keep it on the pipe at all times while riding.  Once you get the hang of it you will really love the way it feels.
You need to set up your sag and the suspension will act a lot better.  Especialy on jumps. It will never be as cushy over the small bumps as you TTR though.  That was a trail bike designed for the small stuff.  This is a race bike designed to go so fast you float over the smaller bumps, and stiffer to handle bigger jumps.

Lastly this is a 2 stroke engine not a 2 cycle.  There are 2 piston strokes for each cycle of the crank shaft.  So 2 cycles equals 4 strokes.  This is just one of my pet peeves and I felt it needed correcting.
