I have just bought the 08 Honda CRF450X, I am buying all the extra equipment required to keep the bike maintained, I need to buy a spanner for the rear wheel to take it off but I don't know what size the rear wheel nut is.  The same goes for the front with the 'L' key.
Can someone let me know?
Bear in mind I'm from Australia so I work in the metric system.
Thanks in advance

everthing about dirt bikes is in metric. every bolt nut whatever you can think of is metric even over here. what is a spanner

I considered the 250 but I'm 6 feet tall and 230 pounds so decided bigger might be better

yah i guess ur right im 6,1 180 pounds, but i luv the control of the 250 and it doesnt weigh as much and its a smaller bike, i prefer it in woods then a 450 easyer to ride not as big, but its all personal prefrence

you made a good choice. i would put stiffer springs on though.stock springs are set up for 180 pound person. stiffer springs will give it a more comfortable ride.

my bike uses a 27 mm nut, so yours should be the same or bigger. you need to get a service manual.

You're right I'll need to put in some stiffer springs but will wait until I run the bike in and just try adjusting the compression and rebound in the mean time.
It's a pity the manual that comes with the bike doesn't have the size of the nuts etc. it's got practically everything else.

you will never get the same feel that stiffer spring will give you. the springs are relatively cheap and you could probably find someone that will put them on cheap too. just my 2 cents.

Just for further info, I found out that the front nut is 22 mm and the rear nut is 32.  I was surprised when I bought the bike that they no longer supply the right size spanners (wrenches) to do the basics.

I am in canada and we do inches over here.

a 32 mm is 1 1/4 inch (1.25). yes they make those sockets, and they are small.

In the plant I work in we have 3 inch sockets, and im sure they make even bigger.

i am in america and we do both i have a metric set and standard set. i only use metric on my bike because all the bolts are in metric and standards are not exactly the same size. standard are usually bigger and occaisionly strip the the heads making them rounder. i also have a 3 inch socket but they are not included in a normal sized socket set. i have a very nice tool set and expensive and the biggest socket i have is a 27 mm and a 1 inch open ended wrench. i got it like 6 years ago. i did mean like there is nothing i know there are bigger but i meant included in a normal sized socket set. my dad has an escavter and bobcat and some of the bolts are huge on them that is why i have a 3 inch socket.

Your going to want to get a tourq (spanner) as well    The manual will have all the bolt and tourq specs, As  Elk said its a must.
