Hey guys. I have been experiencing symptoms similar to worn rings. And that what i thought it was for the longest time. However when i try to kick it over it feels as if there is an airleak somewhere. But I can't find anywhere where there is a leak. sprayed everything with soapywater and there is no bubbles or anything. So my only other outlet for an airleak would be this thing on my bike called a powervalve. it hangs of the cylinder, a black oval type protrubence that is adjustable and has a spring or two in it. dont know what it does and no other bike i've seen have them. except for maybe a ktm a long time ago and im not even sure about that. so, could this be my problem? my ring was running fineone minute. i went to kick start it the next and it was junk. it doesn't seem right that the tinrg went from working great to really bad that quick. could it be my powervalve? ~pat

The valve will get stuck not leak per say. If you have a air leak at your boot the bike will ARP. And no bubbles because its sucking IN. A trick is to start the bike and using a tourch FLAME OFF spray the reed boot with the gas and the engine will arp up if there is a leake as it will burn the gas. but just alittle as you don't want to much pre det. Hope we are talking about the same thing or i'm going to look like a real schmuck lol.

nahh nm. my bad.found out what it is and i'm assuming it is an internal thing on most bikes. it is an exhaust valve. they call it a powervalve. regulates the size of the exhaust opening depending on the rpm's to get the best power through all rpms. i dont think it has anyhting to do with it. it must not be an airleak then. must be my rings. haha. or ring rather~pat

LOL. What bike is this? There is a reed valve and power valve that opens at mid throttle depending on the bike. And can just pull the pipe and use a screw driver to see that its moving. I'm cunfused lol

I know exactly what your talking about (power valve) adn am going through the exact same situation as you. i started tearing my bike down 2nite bc i have the airleak sound adn ive all the sudden lost compression. my bike will run fine if i push start it and it does normal in the low rpms but if i try to let er eat she cuts out and falls on her face. im pretty sure my friend that we both need to replace our worn piston rings. i know it seems like all of the sudden it happened, but all of the symptoms fit worn rings. i will keep you posted on it. 2morrow im doing a rebuild and i will tell you if a new ring fixes it. if not i will be scratching my head feeling like a goober. but oh well i guess. at least it only takes about an hour and a half to do a full rebuild! btw my bike is an 01 rm125. power valves for the exhaust. just like you stated they open throughout the power band increasing exhaust flow and hp. very simple design really.
