I was just reading the newest Quad magazine. They have an article about riding in Englands Green Lanes.
Are these things as good as they sound? What are some of the enviromental/legal hurdles you face in your country for trail riding? Are the british as law suit happy as us Americans?
Over here it is hard to get permission to ride on private property because everyone is afraid of getting sued because someone gets hurt on their property. It sounds ridiculous I know but it happens all the time. A famous case was a robber who succesfully sued a home owner because he broke his arm while breaking into the house. One of the most famous tracks here in the US, Mammoth Mountain, almost had to close because a rider sued after getting paralized there. They sued for millions even though they signed a waiver acknowloging the risk of injury.

Right... Basically green laning is where you ride you offroad motorbike/quad on public bridle ways. But the only catch is your vehicle has to be road legal. I presonally have never done any green laning, but do know people that have done it and they say it is brilliant. However, the old environmentalists do pop up now and again to try and cause havoc. But usually fail, or give up. The only thing they are really clamping down on tho, is noise. And they seem to be preferring the thump thump of the 4 stroke rather than the ring-ding-ding. ![]()
Luckily in England the attraction of sueing people hasn't really caught on. Thank God! LOL
Any other questions? I thought you were gunna tell me off or something when you put "92 look here"! lol

The article was using street legal CanAM Renegades. How hard is it to get your bike legalized?

Thats not that bad. Everyone has a right to squelch noise. Sueing because u can on the other hand should not be tolerated. Also making it mandatory for everyone who rides to register only makes sense too. Maybe making it a road legal format is a bit extreme, but within reason would be ok.
The us has a lot to learn, I know, I'm an American.

I agree that sound needs to come down, but a thumper sound caries much further. If these people ever compared a KDX200 to say a quiet thumper like the XR400 they would realize how quiet 2 stroke can be.

When you say "How hard is it to get your bike legalized?"
Are you talking about my bike personally or a bike in general?

To be honest with you Bill I'm not really sure. It is probably easiest to buy an already road legal bike. There loads of different options, but there fav's seem to be the KTM's, Suzuki's and Yamaha's. But in terms of making your own bike road legal it is very difficult, because our laws on vehicle safety are very very strict over here.

But they let sport quads become street legal. Why not bikes?

Most sport quads that are bought over here are either already or semi road legal already.
But to be quite frank with you Bill I am really not that sure. Because I have never looked into it.
