I WENT IN FOR VAVLE ADJUSTMENT.WAS TOLD I NEEDED A COMPLETE TOP END REBUILD AFTER 12 RIDES.ALSO WAS TOLD NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE WITH HONDAS.I MAINTAIN MY BIKE SO WHEN I WAS TOLD I GOT SICK TO MY STOMACH. I BOUGHT THE BIKE NEW IN 07 ITS A 06CRF450X.WHAT KILLS ME IS THIS MAG SAYS YOUR CHOICE COMES DOWN TO COLOR,THERE ALL GREAT BIKES.MY BUDDIES HAVE YAMMIES THEY TOOK THEM IN FOR SERVICE AND DIDNT EVEN NEED SHIMS FOR VALVES.MY POINT IS BIKES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL AND WHEN 4 MORE YEARS OF PAYMENTS ON TOP OF GENERAL UPKEEP LIKE TOP END REBUILDS EVERY YEAR $800.00 OR SO THAT EQUALITY COSTS TO MUCH FOR THIS WORKING MAN.

get a second opinion!!! unless you rode the bike very hard and long, with minimal or no maintenance. if it were a crf250r i might buy it, but a 450x?? i dont think so.
the "x" model is designed to be more durable than the full race "r" models. seriously get a second opinion

Unless each of those rides ate through an average of 3 tanks of gas your top end should be fine.  Your valves probably need adjusting, but your piston and rings should be good.  Have another shop measure it or have the current one show you how far out of spec you are.  And a full top end will cost you close to $2 grand so I would make certain it needs replacing.

As mentioned; why do they want to do a top end?

How many hours on the motor?  Thats more meaningful than number of rides as far as maintenance intervals.

second opinion forsure it could easily need a rebuild if u didnt do all the regular maintenance.
