You don't know why they are there? Did you click on the weblink I posted? I thought it explained it pretty clearly.

There was actually a thread not so long ago, explaining what reeds were, but I couldn't find it.

Wombat_chris: What are V Force Reeds. i know alot about bikes but just not Reeds. where are they in the bike. what do they do and what do aftermarket reeds do for your bike. thanks chris
Reeds are used as a one way flapper valve that lets the fuel charge flow from the carburator but snaps shut when the flow is reversed. Using reeds is a fast lightweight non mechanical way to do the job. The only down side is the reeds will chip or fray after a while. They are easy to replace though.
The Vforce, and Boyesson reed cages both claim to make better flow allowing more of a fuel charge. The Vforce even claims to better mix the air and gas with a swirling action. They claim to get more power and better throttle response. My experience with these claims is there is little change in either on a stock engine. At least not enough of a change to justify the price of a new reed cage.

Your link was more than informative. In fact I think it was more info than he was looking for. So I just gave him the summary I think he was looking for and my opinion of the Vforce reeds.
