what size fourstroke are you talking about? I prefer the ktm 250's. an sx? they are pretty mint bikes especially for tracks.~pat

allright. i know im gonna forget something so someone else will post what i forgot lol. with racing fourstrokes the power is nice. really nice. but the maintanence is frequent. changing/checking valves and the such. quite a pain. plus the top end will wear out eventually on a racing fourstroke and thats biggggg money. thousand or two i hear. one  racing fourstroke. the only maintanence you do is changing checking oil and airfilters. plus you have to mix your gas. so you have to add 2 stroke oil to your gas. the mix is called premix. a top end on a 2 stroke will run about 180 to 200 depending on the 250. but. you do have to replce the top end on a two stroke a bit more frequently.

also, working on 2 strokes is a lot easier then fourstrokes. 2 strokes dont have timing chains/belts whatever they are lol. plus i like the powerband of my 250 2 stroke. but for you i would advise testing them out. feel what fits you better. o and hte 250 2 stroke will have quite a bit more power then the 250 4 stroke.~pat

on my word though. i would hate to think that. thre are way mroe people on here that have way mroe experience then me. but yes. hte 2 stroke will require a fresh topend ussually once a year. depending on how hard you ride. maybe once every two years. but it is easy to do. takes very little skill and time to do a top end. takes patience and tools pretty much. anyway. hope you get what you want ~pat

get a 2 stroke. everything atk said is right. 4 strokes have a lot of mantence and it cost a lot. 2 strokes are way more powerful.

ive got a 0 450sx just back from the shop all new gaskets timing chain shiftshaft, 700 bones, what im sayin is, fourstrokes you dont have to work on as often, but often times its harder and more expencive. but i would say if you have the money or the know how go with a fourstroke for the torque i swore by twostroke till i got this bike now ill never own one again.

your crazy. 4 strokes need way more maintenance. wait till yours craps on you because you never touched the valves.

haha. elko is dead on. you are crazy. 4 stroke require way more. but people dont reallize this. ym friend is trading his 99 yz250 for an 07 crf150. with hopes he can somehow sell teh 150 for enough for a 450. he is ignorant to the fact teh 4 strokes require way more maintanence, and wa more expensive maintanence at that. ~pat
