i am considering buying a crf250r 2006, 2007, or a 2008. Never owned a honda before always owned a yamaha and a suzuki but thought i would try something different. Anyway just was wondering if anyone has had any issues with any of these years? I heard that the valves on the honda 250f's go out quickly because the carb vent hoses suck dirt into the engine? is there any truth to this? also is there a major difference in handling between the 2007 and 2008 because of the triple clamp offset and the steering damper?

they have a higher rev limiter, i think its like 2000 rpm's higher, this causes shorter valve lifespan. never heard of the dirt issue though.

I'd try to get as new as possible, unless you find a deal on a couple year old bike

I can get a brand new 2008 or 2007 but the 2006 is used.

Shorter valve life compared to what? Its not 2000 RPM's btw! Im pretty sure that in 2007 they increased the rev limit from 13200 to 13370, then in 08 to 13,500.

In 2006 Honda finally took note to the valve problems and tried to make a better valve seat. This increased valve life significantly over 05 which was much improved over the vulnerable 04.

If given the choice, I would not even look at a 2006. Many have said that the 05 model was a better bike then the 06.

The 07 is a good bike, fairly reliable, about the same as the 08. Power on the 07 is still competative by 08 standards, and the suspension action is good. The thing I would say is ask yourself what type of a rider you are. The 07 is more of a beginner type bike while the 08 appeals to much faster guys. I did not have any problems with the suspension on the 08 CRF I rode, but I know some slower guys hate the fork and say how harsh it is.

In all honesty. You really can't fault the 07 or 08. If you can get a good deal on the 07 I would do that. However, if you are a fast B/A rider then I would look harder into the 08.
