so i have been thinking a lot lately on which bike i want to get, and wanted to see what you guys think.
i was leaning towards the cr250 for awhile. but after thinking about i am now thinking about gettting a 4 stroke. i really wanted to get a 2 stroke but if they arent going to make a comeback then i dont want to buy a dead dirt bike.
valves are not a problem for me. i feel that i have enough mechanical skills that with the help of a manual i can check and adjust them regularly.
i was also thinking about resale value. if i dont like the 4 stroke i think i could sell and make enough off it and get a 2 stroke.
so i was thinking that if i can handel a 250 two stroke then i could handle a 450 four stroke. but my friend said i should get a 250f because i am use to a 125's power.
another thing with both the 250's is that i can race them in the lights and open class but can only race the 450 in the open class.
so which do you guys think i should get and remember i wont be getting a bike till spring so i will probably ask this question again in the spring but i would to hear some opinions to get this off my mind.

If you are happy with the amount of power you get from your 125 than you should get the equivalent CRF250. But I would not count out the CRF250X because everything I have heard about that bike has been great. I know you enjoy 2 strokes so why are you not considering a YZ or KTM? If you just want to see how you would like a thumper then I can understand that too. Look at Pin for example. The kid can really fly on a bike and he chose a 250f.

thanks for the good answer bill.
by dead bike i did not mean the cr specifically, i meant 2 strokes all togethor. if this really is the end of 2 strokes, i dont want to buy one if they're not going to comeback. and yeah i did kinda want to try a 4 stroke to see how much i would like one.

If you are going to compete, I think you should get the 250F.

just saw the post. heres what i think. i like 2 strokes as well, but like you said they might not make a comeback. i think you should go with a 250f. dont matter what color their all nice. you said you can race it in the open or light classes, and your allready used the the 125 2 strokes power. that will make the transition form the 125 to the 250f a lot easier then a 125 to a 450f. btw are you keeping your 125? ~pat

ahhh. even more reason to switch, but why stay honda if you've got bad experiences? why not go yz250f? or the rmz's? i dunno, the 4 strokes are gonna be mroe money, even used, and then if their used your probably gonna have to redo the topend, if not more, and its a bit harder to work on 4 strokes ehh? we all know you can do the work but is it worth it? ~pat

well its not bad experiences with honda, i have had great experiences with them, that is why i am staying with them.
its actually because of the previous owner. everything you could possibly think of has broken because of the previous owners incompetince to fix things or to fix them the right way. and i met the person that owned the bike before the person i bought it off and he said the bike ripped like you would never believe, never had a single problem.
the only thing that i have not had to fix so far is the bottom end and electrical so i am scared that will be next on me to break. and the engine is starting to feel weird when i get off the throttle, so that may be a possibility.
and i am getting a new bike. after this bike i have realized that you cant trust people and buying a used bike will not getting me anywhere. i figure if i get a new bike this spring, every winter or two i could sell it and make enough money off it to be able to buy another new bike.

the 4 strokes of the modenr years are a blast. they have a lot of right there power you know? i like the snappier two stroke, but the advance in the 4 strokes are exciting. because they will continue to grow and become better in ways the 2 strokes couldnt. it sounds like hte crf250r! ~pat
