Jbrovelli:
I could just unplug the killswitch to test that theory right?

I don't know if it is a normally closed or open circuit.  If normally open you could test your bike like that.  Unplug it and if it starts it's normally open.

pressing the button opens the circuit on these bikes - 90% of the time, that's the case.  You should be able to take it apart enough to bridge the wires and test it.

Can you do a compression test?

a freind rode my bike and said he thinks it has an electrical problem because of the way it dies. it died on the pavement in front of his house and he said it didnt really bog it straight up died.      he thinks if it was a fuel problem that maybe it would sort of kick in and out and keep trying to run. what do you guys think?

A compression checker can be found in an auto parts store fairly cheap, or if you know a friendly mechanic who could let you use his.  This could help us determine the condition of you top end.

Faulty CDI?  I'm running out of ideas... it's acting like a clogged jet or a clogged vent line... but we've checked all that.

I'm thinking valves that are out of tolerance.  As the head heats up and the ports expand he may lose compression.

It makes perfect sense, Bill - but didn't we ask about the valves already?

Tight exhaust valves or hanging intake valves would make it hard to start, but would also make it prone to stall.  It could also be flaming out...

We pulled the valve cap off and looked at the valves but we didn't have a tool to measure the gaps...It looked clean but i know that doesn't really mean anything...

Eyeballing really won't tell you much - as you noticed.  You need to slip a feeler guage in between the cam lobes and the lifters and measure the clearance.  For intake, you're shooting for around .006" and for exhaust, .008" +/- .001"

Valves (specifically tight ones) are probably the #1 most common problem on a 250F MX motor..
