hey there guys... long story short, I got my first flat today... still not sure where I picked up that darn nail!!

anyways... I got a ride upto the yamaha shop and I had a KENDA-K772-CARLSBAD installed 100/100/18 on the rear for my TTR230.

The stock TTR230 rear tire that I've been running on the last 3 months still had some life left in it before the nail today.

I'm just hoping the KENDA-K772-CARLSBAD 100/100/18 is ok and will be ok for a little sand and more so my trails in these parts.

Well,.... so far so far I guess. I rode back home from the shop on the trail and the first thing I noticed was a lot of traction!!! more go go go.

Anyways,.... guys, do you have any thoughts on the TTR230 stock tire, but also my new KENDA-K772-CARLSBAD tire on my TTR230?

any comments here would be great.

thank you in advance!

Cheers.

allright. start off with the new one. it looks like its got good traction for dirt, looks like it will be allright in the sand. your old tire. are you wanting to maybe give it another go? if the hole is small enough some people will put a plug in it. and you might get some more riding time out of it. i dont reccomend that, but you can do it if you want. ~pat

I took a look at the old (stock tire) and there is a cut and hole in it.... so it's a difficult patch job and I'd rather not risk it, so I tossed it out.

thanks.
cheers.

hahaha. if the bike has enough power. and your tire aint inflated properly you can spin your rim inside your tire and pop it. done that a couple times. lol it sucks nut. i now put a litlte slime in my tires before they pop to close the whole so that it dont go completely flat. makes the balance a litlte weird sometimes but its all set. ~pat

Where i used to ride as a kid the trail boardered peoples land and they would put down all kinds of stuff.
And i was going to say...From the pics it looks like you would be hard pressed to find a nail let alone hit it right.

there sbeen people that throw nails down in the trails. it can happen. we were tlaking to a guy at a store called boonies, the central riding huib around here. he had a bunch of nails in hsi tire, was buying slime and filling his tire at the pump. it ticks me off, and i worry bout the horse's that ride there. ~pat

And yeah horses were on the trails to.
And i would always shut my bike off till they passed and they were usually really nice with a smile and nod.

Agreed, especially when you changed it yourself for the first time.

yzwoods: haha... yep, my first flat... and I didn't like it much. I noticed it on a dirt road before I went into the woods. I was well in distance of a pick up truck ride, so no issues there, which was good this time around.

Yeah, I noticed it on a dirt road, thought the rear was a little washy... I slowed down and turned slightly and thought yeah, for sure it's a flat... sure enough. oh well, its all part of it I guess.

I'm happy I'm up and running now again, just a couple hours after the flat. Happy my dealer had a tube and tire in stock to fit my TTR230 ( 100/100/18 ).

yzwoods: I'm not sure where I picked it up for sure.... but I have a feeling it was in my dad's drive way while loading up in the pick up.... I bought this tire, but I've been bugging him about nails in his drive way. Maybe he'll get the next tire haha.

all this talk of nails and wires on the trails... sounds not cool at all.

I have come across a trail with some piles of stuff in the trail, like logs and branches etc...
I've removed them each time and went on my way....  some people I guess just should stay home...

anyways... yeah, I did a little testing with my new tire tonight on the local trail and it seems to be working great!

one more thing... ok is it just me or does this NEW tire I have seem to grab the trail a little more then the stock ( and 3months worn down ) tire?  It certainly 'feels' that way...

can a new tire give you/the bike that feeling... more traction I guess, as a result of more tire then the worn down one?!?!

comments on that?
thanks

Yeah it happens. And glad to hear all is well.
Elk. Some horses do mind it and just proper riding edeqit. I know you were saying some don't but on a trail you can spook them, Cows are not on a trail being ridden.
And its always good to shut your bike off when coming up on horse riders.
