i called the shop to ask about it and he told me that my toppend is shot because i rode it at all on the bad gas so my  toppend has 36 hours on it is that dude at the shop just wanting me to order a new topend from him or is he being for real

does it run fine with fresh fuel?? at 36hrs it may be a good idea to check the top end anyway.
pinging can do a lot of dammage in a short period of time if it is severe enough.
what bike are we talking about??

so, after draining the tank and adding fresh premix it runs fine.
not so sure i'd worry about it.
but after 36hrs, you should tear it down for a new ring and inspection at the least.
