I post in 2 stroke like a dumby....sorry... anyway...

Hello, I just bought my son our first ever dirt bike.  IT is a 2004 CRF70 and we are have idle issues and I have found other discussions on DR on this but would like advise.

My experience with chock(say on a mower) is you start the bike in choke let it idle in choke awile and then it should want to kill itself move it down to off choke to idle and ride.

Well this bike starts great in in choke every time, ides way high and I can move the choke lever to half way but never all the way off or it will die.  So what I start to do is adjust the idle screw to make it run in idle with the chocke off and I get it pretty good and the boy can ride it for a while then I have him come to the garage and in 1st gear I have him release the brake alittle and the bike creeps forward(is this normal), so I adjust the idle screw some more to prevent the creeping forward and off he goes again.  This creeping forward thing can be alitttle scary for the boy when he is not ready.

I have to repeat this everytime.  Yesterday I took the carb apart and cleaned everything started up with choke and and had to repeat everything so I am clueless at this point.

Any ideas on what to do here.  I am not very mechanically inclined, but have heard talk abou the jets.  Should I replace those, the whole carb?  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I was kinda hoping not to have to go out and fix this everytime so my son can just go out an ride when he wants.

Thanks

Check/clean the air filter if you haven't already.  You may need to also check the air screw and make sure it is adjusted correctly.  I can't remember the actual turns out on the crf so you can probably look it up or maybe someone else will chime in.  You could pull the throttle slide and check the needle clip position also.  Usually those bikes are rock solid and idle/run very well.  Good luck

Look in the manual.  It will show you the location of the fuel screw. You can adjust it to lean out the bike since it comes rich from the factory for the break in period.

First adjust the idle screw so the bike will idle.  Then start turning the fuel scew to where the bike revs the highest.  Then turn the idle screw in till the bike is going to stop and turn it back out an eighth to a quarter turn.
