I bought a 2000 kx125 that was taken apart.The guy told me he had it looked at by some shop and they told him it needed the top end rebuilt.I have the cylinder off right now.what do I look for to determine that it needs the top end rebuilt?I noticed the piston rod has a lot of side to side play on the crank and piston, but no endplay. Also the threads for the oil drain plug are stripped how should I repair those?helicoil?What else should I check?

might have to drill out the drain plug hole, and put a bigger plug in?

look at the gaskets, o rings, and ur piston ring. not sure bout the rod sideplay, could be bad i guess

I ordered a piston kit and some other things.I took my cylinder in to my local Kaw service dept.They told me they couldn't hone it because it's nikosil plated.They told me to scuff it very lightly and put a piston in it and run it. There is some wear at the front of the cylinder that I can feel with my finger.What do you guys think?How long do you think it will last if I do it that way.I know from my experience with car engines that it wouldn't be acceptable.There are pictures in the following link:

i would send it out to millennium technologies to get replated so u don't have to worry about it....
i had them do my 03 kx125 and it came back looking brand new(inside and out) for 200$
