Silencer packing problems..

I recently bought fmf two stroke silencer packing to repack my stock silencer.. and i got all the old packing out but when i was pulling it out steel wool came out to.. i took everything out, and just repacked the silencer with the whole pack of new silencer packing.. i just sorda stuffed it all in there.. could neone tell me if i need to put steel wool in it or no need.. and if i did it right????????

your suppose to wrap the packing around the core.

Search muffler packing. We awnsered this.

yea i did wrap it around the corr.. but am i suppose to wrap the corr with steel wool? or does new packing not need it..

You are lost. Steel wool is what you clean the core with to remove oil deposits. dont wrap steel wool in there.

haha when i took the old packing out.. there was oily steel wool around the corr.... i pulled it out.. i didnt now if i had to put some more in there...

no most packing are similar to that. when the packing gets old, it starts falling apart and it looks like steel wool.

yeah but i doubt you would mistake it for steel wool
its more like fiberous and stringy then steel wool

see if the "steel wool" sticks to a magnet if it does then it is said steel wool if not then elko is right

i have packing in my basement. it looks like steel wool. it just depends on who makes it and the materials that are used.
