I am putting a new top end on this KTM. When I tighten the cylinder head it hits the piston. It won't even crank when tightened. Any Ideas?

get a new piston. it sounds like the piston is out of spec if everything else is fine. im guessing your not the original owner of the bike. so who ever had it before you probably got the wrong piston. you can get the bore right but if you get the stroke length wrong they'll send yo the wrong piston. ~pat
PEACE GUYS ITS BEEN A BLAST!!!!! ~patrick

Call up your a KTM dealer, and check if you have the right piston.

If you had the head milled or bought a wiseco pro-lite piston for example(raised crown) or both, that will happen. You mill the head to raise the compression ratio, and the pro-lite piston does that also, by raising the crown instead of lowering the head space. I found that out the hard way, never seen it on a 50 though.

Well, an obvious question is you do have the base gasket in place (and head gasket unless it uses o-ring head gaskets), correct? Beyond that I would double check the piston.
