Hi guys, need some info on long term storage, i have read about winter storage...but that does not help me much!  I am living and working in Bahrain Middle east, will be here for another 2-3 years. I just bought myself a 2008 RM 250, still in the crate...standing in my spare room, as it was shipped from Japan.

how do i go about storing the bike till I go to Australia in 2-3 years?
do i drain the coolant? transmission oil? oil in the cylinder? remeber the bike has never run.

I am riding my 2006 CRF250R now, but want to keep my RM brand new as Suzuki stopped the 2-stroke range. Im riding my 4stroke ...but the RM is still my baby!

Thanks.

hmm, i'd drain all the fluids. and then id wipe all the metal bits down with some light oil, and get the bikes tires of te ground. and then cover it up with a tarp or sheet or something. ~pat

There is no oil in the cylinder, it's lubricated from the premix.

If the bike is still in the crate, does it even have fluids in it?

yup got coolant and trans oil.  should I put oil in cylinder? cos the bike has not run so no premix has been burnt yet...just worried the cylinder and rings might get a bit rusty.

You can buy a fogging spray to lubricate it. I'm not sure where you spray it in though i.e. intake-exhaust port or head.

If its still in the crate I wonder if you need to do anything?  Its possible the factory does some of that (oil in cylinder etc) to protect while shipping and storage.

Anyone know for sure what steps the factory uses?  I have seen bikes still in the OEM crate a few years old and are setup with no issues.

Thanks Dave, was just a bit worried the coolant could go bad...or damage internals, but when I do start her up when the time comes, all coolant and oil will be changed and air filter.

Doesnt that drive you nuts, not being able to ride it for another2-3 years? I think that it would kill me!

i would drain the carburater, fuel tank, tranny oil, and coolant and you should be good. i would definitly get a stand for it though. you dont want to go to ride the bike for the first time and find out the suspension is already sagging out from it sitting on its own weight for 2 years. i alwasy put my bike on a stand. it makes a big difference when you go to ride next time. im not even kidding. when i let it sit on its own weight the suspension feels real hard and stiff but its nice and plush and sucks up all the bumps when i let it sit on a stand.
