i have a 2000 kx 125. i went out to ride in some trails. i was riding it fast and hard for most of the ride. i stopped, turned it off, started it back up, and reved it up a couple times(NOT TO REV LIMIT), and directly as i let off the throttle the bike made a funny metal on metal noise from the exhaust. it sputtered, and turned off.

engine head? or do u think its time for an entire top end rebuild?

and what ratio coolant do 2 strokes take?

You definately need to pull the topend! Metal on Metal= seizure

You can buy premixed coolant at your nearest dealer.

isn't a seizure when the piston gets locked up in the cylinder? cuz the piston still moves up and down.

im gonna take off the top end off and inspect it for damage today hopefully if i have time.

I think what Chud was trying to say was, that metal on metal will eventually result in a seizure.

As the metel gets hot or cold it will contract and if you have a piston/top end issue it can cause a semi sizure and can crank when cold.
If not taken care of will cause full sieze and  crank and bottom end damage.
Do not try to start and pull the top end.

You perhaps could have have phrased it a little better Woods.
Better because was going to ask the same question as TMG. Until I re-read what you put. And fully understood it.

haha now i get ya!

i drained all the coolant out and stripped the bike down to get ready to start taking the top end apart and i just could not get the head off . im not stupid i know how to take apart a top end, but this stupid thing keeps getting stuck when its about 1/4 inch off of the cylinder. its always come off easy before this.

has this happened to any of ya'll? how do u get it off without damaging anything?

sounds like power valve problem (the rings will stick on exhaust side when the plating comes off the cylinder).need to tear down and inspect and I believe you will find the problem...and say  damm now what!!!(as I usually do)
