hi all got a little problem on my hands that i can't sort out on my own and its costing me a fortune keep buying spark plugs right here's my problem every time i go out on my bike the plug lasts just a couple of hours or 1 day if I'm lucky and the problem that causes the fouling of the plug every time is CARBON build up i have a kx250  2-stroke and its a 2004 model
i clean the filter every time i ride my bike
the mix i use is 40:1 and its Bel-ray H1R
the bike is completely standard
all the jetting in the carb is standard but i did uprate the reed valves  but the bike fouled plugs before i even changed them anyway

i think its all down to the jetting and the air screw but i don't no what size main jet, power jet and slow jet to get and what grove to put the needle clip on and how may turns on the air screw to make

these are the ones i have in my bike
main jet 165
power jet 50
slow jet 52
clip on needle is on the 2ND grove
these are standard manufactures settings
like i said before i have just uprated my reed valves to boysteen valves and changed nothing any surjestions

What plug are you running? And how are you riding the bike? Just putting it around or getting on it?
Do you have the manual? And What is your air screw turned out at right now? Please awnser all. AND how does the bike run? Bogging ?Crisp?

reed valves dont change jetting. your top end is probably worn, and in need of a rebuld.\

what is your altitude and temperature. your air screw should be set at 1.5 turns out from slightly seated.

yea i know. but things that cause carbon fouling. worn top end, wrong starting procedure, prolonged idleing.

and i did ask him what his altitude and temperature is.

Putting a 2 stroke is the fastest way if not set up for it, And may reqire a plug and air change.
If the bike pulls good and crisp then not a top end issue per say. Also crap gas and wrong mix
Thats why i like to know everything i can before suggesting anything. And i din't ask for his altitude because i asked if its crisp or bogging addressing a jetting issue . If he replyes the bike runs great before the plug goes then that tells the story.

i do have a manual the air screw is turned at 1.5-2 turnes i do a lot of pottering about and the weather in England is always crap and the bike feels good when a new plug is put in then it seems to bogg slightly and i did a top end rebuild about 6-7 hours ago and the plugs im useing are BR8EG and i have tried a BR7EG and for some reason the bike felt more responsive and crisp but i have only ever tried the BR7 plug once then that fouled aswell

allright i dont know whats up. your runing a good oil at a good mix with good jetting. with a good plug. i run br9's but i dont think the 8 is muhc different. the thing about 2 strokes is that you have to wind htem out a lot. like if your coasting pull in the clutch and rev it out to clear it out. it needs to be fairly hot to thuroughly burn that oil, or else you got yourself a fouled plug. ~pat
PEACE GUYS ITS BEEN A BLAST!!!!! ~patrick

Your putting the bike as i susspected . Your mix is good at 40:1 And oil is good. You need to use the at least 92-94 octain to mix with Fresh.
And you want to change your air screw to 7/8 out to start for your conditions. And make shure you get on it every ones in awile when you can as well as don't let the bike just sit and idle after shuting the choke off for long. Snap the throttle alittle till you get good respounce and go.

Turn it in 1/4 to start from where your at. And 3 sec is not long enough. leave it on till you can snap the throttle and get respounce and the idle comes down alittle. Mine takes at least a min cold, then another min getting it warm enough to take off.

it may be a case then by sounding like it I'm not letting the bike warm up properly and lets start from scratch on the air screw if i turn it all the way in (clockwise) how many turns out should i turn it

1.5 turns, woods ways confusing me. stock plug is br8eix. you can use a br8eg instead. if your just putting then a br7eg is ok but no matter what you still need to get the revs up to burn that carbon off.
