Well ive narrowed it down to the CRF150R, KX/RM100, and all the 2-stroke 85's for my next bike. so ill compare the highs and lows, and tell me what you think. Im only trail riding + some jumping.
CRF150R -highs: Quieter than 2stroke, 4stroke, better fuel mileage.
Lows: Really high priced bike, high maintenance costs.

KX/RM100-Highs: i can grow into it more, cheaper to maintain, little bit better of a trail bike than an 85, cheaper than crf150r.
Lows: louder(FMF Q stealth?), needs top-end regularly, not as good fuel mileage, mix gas.

YZ/CR/RM/KX85-Highs: cheaper then the 100's and crf150r, cheaper to maintain.
Lows: mix gas, louder(FMF Q?), top end, fuel mileage, etc.

So the crf150r is probavly my 1st choice, but it cost sooooo much and idk if i can afford it. But between the rest what would you guys think? and for the 2 strokes, how much would the FMF Q quiet them down?
Thanks!!!!!

second of all, i dont think that there is much of a noise difference between the bikes just because ive worked on all of the above.

personally i would take the 150 if you are that worried about fuel economy but if you want anything other than that i would take a 100 two stroke

i worked on a yz 85 once that had an oversized tank and i couldnt belive it..

i didnt think that they made them for the smaller bikes and i havent been able to find one anywhere.

the power of the 100 will be better  than the 150 and you will actually have to work on the 150 more than the 100 if you ride them the same.

the 150 is basically the same motor design of the crf450r just smaller so you still run into problems of it being a strictly track ready bike...

you might need to replace the topend on the 100 ever year or so but its about 130 bucks and you can do that with christmas money during the winter...

overall, the best way to figure it out is to ride at least one 85, one of the 100's and a 150 and see what you like the most.

Yeah Id say 100 but it all depends on how old you are, how much you weigh and how tall you are. You might need an even bigger bike

Sorry I was out for a min. I'm 5'4", about 135lbs and btw I'd say I'm about a lower level intermediate rider.

ok first off. the 150 is louder. way louder. but the 85 needs to be screaming. once a year all of these bikes will need rebuilt. the 150 and 100 will be more expensive. because the 150 is a four stroke and because parts are rarer on the 100. the 85 is like for an average sized 12-15 year old with average ability. the 100 is for the bigger kids that are 12-15 years old. and the 150 is a beast, its better at everything. its better in every way possible.

so if you want performance then get the 150. if you are 12-15 average sized kid then get an 85, if you are a little bigger then get the 100. yamaha has the best 85 made, honda has probably the second best but the cr is about average and there is nothing average about the yz.

Your kidding????????? the 150 is LOUDER????? r u sure? but other than that, the 100 would be nice, but an 85 big wheel might be better, btw who still makes the big wheels? And, for 85's, ive heard the suzuki rm85 is the best for the trails?
Thx!

The YZ85 is the best 85 made. And it sux on trails and woods. A 150R would be better.

i agree. the 150r is basically better at everything.  and yes 4 strokes are louder then 2 strokes. 2 strokes just make a more high pitched noise but the 4 strokes are louder and the sound carries.

get the 150 and put a quieter exhaust on.

id say 150r big wheel, thats what im gonna get, to make the cost come down, get a left over 08 or 07 from the dealer, they will usually try to get rid of those quick
yes, the 150r is louder, but it is also easier to quiet, and will be way better on the  trails
