How difficult and how long does it take on average to replace a head gasket? Can I take the head off with the valve cover still on and everything inside asembled or do I have to take the whole top end apart?

i regret to say that i am not a 4 stroke person. however, bikebandit.com has parts, but they also include parts diagrams on thier website, whihc is extremely helpful heres a link to the diagram of your cylinder. from what i can see, i that you odnt have to worry about all that stuff. but i might be wrong. your cylinder

hope this helps, and if you dont have a manual get one! ~pat

The bike is leaking coolant out under the head, just below the header. The only thing that would cause a problem would be the cam chain right? I should probably just go through and check the valves again, but I was just curious if there was a way to get around taking the top end apart. And thanks atkkid250, its always good to see a diagram.

azrider00, a manual will show you all the pics and instructions you need for this job so get a manual before you do anything. It will take much longer then if you were doing a 2s. I have the manual for that bike but there to many steps to type out so its best if you have your own and if I did type it all you still want the diagrams to go with it.

Alright, well the head gasket was causing the leak. But I found some hidden surprises lol The piston had some pretty bad scuffs on it and the cylinder had metal chunks missing that were only around the top of the cylinder so i think that means crappy gas was run in it right? Anyways its getting a athena 290 bore kit so its not all bad, that should be in friday.
